Come on, any one got an answer for this. This just happened to me today. I've been organizing my files and tags and I've now lost the search box. It was there awhile ago but I can't bring it back now. I tried restarting MM, no good. I went and restarted my PC and the same thing. I need that search box. HELP!!!

Well I got it back. First I went in to C:\Users\(My User Name)\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey [On Windows 7] and made a backup copy of mediamonkey.ini, then deleted the orginal. Then restarted MM. It still wasn't there at first. I did the right click on the toolbar area and checked Search. I had to drag it up from the Art & Details panel. I got it back to where it belongs. :D

It possible it was in the art in details panel or the now playing. I had those panels off so I could more of the tag details while working on organizing my library of over 16,000 files.

If this helps you out me, let me know. Good luck.

P.S. If that doesn't work, the only thing I can think of was my next step. Make a backup of the mediamonkey, ini and the MM.db file, uninstall MM, reboot, reinstall and the copy the files back.

I hope this post has been helpful to someone out there.

As per above suggestion you should enable all panels in the View menu and make sure right click on Toolbars > Search is enabled. This may allow you to find it.

What a shame that a simple misplaced CLICK can render this great program permanently unusable. Why can they not have an option to restore the Search with the little box that searches any field, on the toolbar. It really makes the product unworkable without it.

View > Toolbars > Search does that unless you have placed the toolbar in a disabled panel.

If you have truly lost it you can reset the whole layout by opening the registry and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MediaMonkey\Interface and delete the whole folder/key.

Thank you for the advice, but I for one think it's unacceptable that a product (paid for) requires expeditions into the registry to put right something that can go wrong so easily. No "restore factory default settings" button?

There are endless and confusing lists of VIEWs and MENUs which seem to appear and diasappear at will, and not one of them contains a SEARCH BOX option that I can activate. How doesanyone USE MediaMonkey without this essential tool? "Show Search Results" (the little magnifying glass icon) is altogether different, and I mostly don't want the big dialogue box, allowing me to do detailed searches. I just want my little oneline search box back in my menu, so I can type in an rtists's name, or any keyword, and MM will find all tracks in which that name / word appears ANYWHERE in the tag! That's not too much to ask, is it, and it has been working perfectly well for years ... and now it's gone, seemingly forever.

Hey buddy, just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the fix. Ive been without my search for almost a year and have been considering changing to another player. Decided to try out the google box regarding this problem before officially dumping MM and stumbled upon this post. Its back!!! Im the happiest guy in asheville. Many thanks. All i did was go to "view" - "tollbars" - and selected everything previously un-selected ("search" was of course already selected, just not showing up) - once i did this it reappeared in the Rhand "now playing" screen and dragged it to its rightful place. why did i wait so long????!!!

As a MediaMonkey user since 2007, I just had this happen to me as well. I purchased and built a new workstation, installed MediaMonkey like I always had - set up my music "views", shut off the Now Playing, Art & Details panes and was ready to listen to some tunes. Immediately (like a trained monkey...) went to the upper right for the Search and it wasn't there.

I found out later that It was docked in the "Now Playing" pane. After turning "Now Playing" back on, I simply dragged the Search up into the main Media Monkey bar at the top - and it was back.

Simple fix to an INTEGRAL part of the power of MediaMonkey. Love this program!!!!

10 years later and this is still the solution! I just couldn't accept any of the work-arounds to not having this search bar handy.

Thank you!!
