Are you using a regular install or Portable Install?

I have this Problem too
I can't get MediaMonkey into the toolbar
In german (yes I know theres a german forum but I would like to add this to this answer):
Unter Symbolleisten in der Windows 7 Taskleiste kann ich nur den gesamten MediaMonkey Ordner öffnen, das bewirkt lediglich dass in der Taskleiste MediaMonkey steht

As Lowlander hinted,
If you are using "Portable" installation then due to Ventis (Mediamonkey Developer) decision to make it so that Portable can not use Micro Player (Toolbars > Mediamonkey is missing).
You will have to use the standard install if you want it.

I decided to look further into this;
In summary: It will make "Toolbars > Mediamonkey Player" appear, but does not work with Portable.
The difference between Portable and Install (in term of Microplayer) is this one file, "Mediamonkey\DeskPlayer.dll"
This seem to be the file responsible for. I try using it with portable version, it will appear in "Toolbars > Mediamonkey Player" but it will display nothing. So you could experiment with it and make an update post or something.
The method I use to get "Toolbars > Mediamonkey Player" to appear is described in this article "
http://www.blogsdna.com/6323/get-back-m ... dows-7.htm"
Instead, we should use regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\DeskPlayer.dll"
Assuming that where you install it, change it if need to.

An update on last post, I forgot to mention one thing.
"DeskPlayer.dll" does not install with Portable installation, you will only see it with standard installation.

If rusty and jiri and the others decided not to use toolbars in the portable install version there was a good reason maybe it caused trouble else where in the portable installed version. So i would not use it in there and just stay with the normal mmw install. When wanting the microplayer.

The reason is that the installation is no longer portable if MM registers the Deskplayer.dll with Windows.

Naturally. But file association too is making change in registry. I guess this is a case of minority.
Perhaps there is special case where portable is use for sole purpose of 'portability'. An example would be, "It recommend to use portable setting to test Mediamonkey beta".
