I had something similar when i went to MM3 to MM4. The way they re-work the library really hosed everything up. Luckily I have a duplicate of my files on a 3TB external. So I didnt worry, just wiped that library and started over and re-tweaked my auto-organize settings.

I cant quite tell what you did to your library though. To strip all data takes some work. I dont think MM can do that, re-code it as a new value for a incorrect artist is always possible. But to just mark them all unknown and throw away all the metadata seems unusual.

I remember the early days of PC programming, just coming off mainframes, how you would as .. then are you sure .. are you really sure <G> .. invariably support would get calls about why did you program do this ?

There is at least three warnings that user needs to click YES to arhive that.

I always say a famous UAC quote: "Virus exe is downloaded from Internet and wants to start? [NEXT]" -> "Virus.exe tries to do suspecious behavior. Do you want to start it? [NEXT]" -> "Virus.exe wants to access your hard disk and gain admin access! [YES] NO" -> "Virus.exe installed Virus Service. BACK [FINISH]"

Some users use Auto-Tag from Web on their whole Library which leaves all selected files with the same Artist and Album value. Auto-Tag from Web does show the changes it will make and I believe you get an additional warning if more than 100 files are selected.

Auto-Tag from Filename can cause similar problems as files may not have the same folder/filename makeup. Again the changes that will be made are shown prior to applying.

Did you by any chance attempt to autoorganize? Or autotag? I had a similar problem where I attempted to auto download missing album names and MM instead decide to retag all of my music as the same song from the same song by the same artist

This sounds more like something that could have possibly happened with Auto-Organize, not Add/Rescan.

Moving the files around is odd but just stripping them of their properties without doing a "clean tags" is bizarre.
Try removing everything from the "Library" and rescanning just the Music folder to see if any of the properties show back up.
Also, make sure "infer properties" is unchecked in the Options

If your music was recorded with a different format (eg ogg or acc), media monkey won't necessarily read the files like it is supposed to. This can happen with some formats of mp3. The best way to fix this is download whatever add-ons you need to read the format for the music you recorded the files in. This should restore the title and artist info that was original. But from the loss of doc and pic files, it sounds like you got hit with a virus or something.

installed media monkey fresh, first time from web page- latest version. told it which directories to find my music. it then read every file on my computer -docs, pics, you name it and then took the music folder and removed every song from the artist /album subfolders they were in and placed them in the main music top folder listed as unknown, it also stripped all the properties from them so I cant go back in and simply edit each one.

also what did it do to all my other files? docs etc?!?!?! this aint good!!!! answer please????
