It should recognize songs it has copied before, but this may not always be the case and also depends on what the user has done since. Thus starting fresh when things have become a mess is often the quickest solution.

thanks lowlander maybe when you say "you may need to start fresh" I might get some clue

i did not start fresh.. I had some songs before I set the autosync, then I set it and expected to not copy the song (because it was there beforehand), but it did...

so then I sould NOT expect mmw to reconsgise existing songs on the device IF they were copied independtly /out of autosync (like mmw has some mirror of the songs that it has copied on the device which it uses for deciding if it should copy or not in the future?)

AutoSync doesn't duplicate, the same file on the device (you may need to start fresh), however if you have duplicate copies in MMW and they're selected for sync you'll have those duplicates on the device after Auto-Sync.

hi lowlander

you mention above: "Only AutoSyncs will prevent files from being synced again if they're already on the device."

i was just looking for such info... i have just tested with it and it did duplicate songs that where on the device.

so could u pls clarify when would it not duplicate?, i was hoping it would search for artist & name and maybe duration before deciding if to copy or not...but it did not... maybe it only looks up for such info in the expected sync location (instead of looking anywhere in the device)?

Both scenarios work for me. You should start by trying out the latest beta of MediaMonkey 4.0.5 as it has many fixes related to syncing: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 13#p339213

Furthermore in the Device Profile you want to enable the option to remove files not on the sync list. This should take care of the duplicates. Only AutoSyncs will prevent files from being synced again if they're already on the device.

I'm having some issues with getting auto sync to work. Probably I am doing something wrong so I'm hoping that someone can show me my error. I use an iPhone 4, and I also sync to a SD card that I use in my car. I do not have any problem doing sync if I manually select the songs. Or, if I wipe the device and select all the songs. But, If I try to use auto sync to add songs from MM to either device (i.e. new songs added to existing), MM either does nothing (iPhone) or it puts duplicates of all songs onto the media (SD card). Because of this, I never use auto sync but it is a hassle to manually add in tracks from my laptop to the mobile devices when I add new content to MM on my laptop and want to add it to my mobile devices. I'd like to know what I am doing wrong since this is obviously not how it is supposed to work. Thanks for any help!
