An older smartphone usually is the cheapest option. You won't need a simcard with it and you can install MMA.

I use an old Galaxy S4 mini as a music player, it is small and you can use a micro sd with infinite (nearly) memory with it.

Have you tried FiiO https://www.fiio.com/player and latest ones (more money) can even use MMA (M6/M7/M9 and M11, M15 even supports MMA pro thru google play store). Price range is almost same.

Very technilogically impaired. I do know what iOS is--I was using my daughter's old iPOD, but it has died. So, what exactly is an Android device (sorry in advance for a probably stupid question).

You'll need an Android with MediaMonkey for Android or an iOS device if you want to work with Play History (to delete what has been listened to on sync).

I wanted to buy a cheap player such as the Mibao 32GB MP3 player with bluetooth. I wonder, though, if MediaMonkey will sync with this? I mainly listen to podcasts and like to start automatically where I left off, and I to have played podcasts deleted upon sync. Thanks!
