Re: Play lists disappear randomly

I am having the exact same problem. I have a Galaxy S II. MMA is 1.0.4.0148. MMW is 4.1.0.1650. Android is 4.1.2.

After a USB sync, the playlists selected for sync show up and I can listen to them. They are also visible in other music player apps on the phone. However, usually within a few hours, or a day, they all vanish. I think, but haven't confirmed, that they are disappearing after I reboot the phone, or turn it off and on. The music is all still there, and the Now Playlist list is still there, but the playlists are all gone. They are not visible in any other music player app. This has been going on for a few months now. I could swear that it is getting worse, in the sense that the playlists used to be visible for a few days or a week or two, but it may be that I am rebooting my phone more often than I used to.

This has also been happening when I do WiFi sync. I haven't done a WiFi sync in a while, however.

I have not seen this particular problem before, but it sounds like the same thing. I am currently using the latest build, 148. Phone is a Droid Razr M, running jellybean.

After a start-from-scratch resync last night, everything looked great this morning, including playlists (which I examined closely due to another issue I've been monitoring). A few hours later - without me using MMA at all (or the phone for that matter, except to text and for some light internetting) my playlists disappeared. I used the app Playlist Backup to check the mediastore, and it showed the playlists as being there. I forced a rescan of the media card but that didn't help. I then restarted the phone but on restart the playlists were still missing (but apparently there if Playlist Backup is to be believed). USB sync followed by a forced rescan of the media card fixed the issue.

Next time instead of restarting the phone I'll send a log!

Jeff

I have 3 syncs on 145 and so far my playlists look like they are coming through

Not exactly. When I use wifi sync, I don't ever see the actual playlist files come across at all. MMA and other Android media apps all see the playlists, but there's no associated .m3u file anywhere. From what I understand, you can have playlists entirely within the database. You don't necessarily need them explicitly defined in a file on either your internal or external card.

I had a case where I deleted playlists in MMA, but other apps still saw those playlists. On subsequent syncs the playlists wouldn't get re-added to MMA. When I then deleted those playlists from Playlist Backup and then did another sync, they started showing up in MMA again.

I turned off deleting of missing content and my playlists downloaded. I still don't get any notification that sync is compete, the progress bar disappears and I can tell from debug logs that its not syncing anymore.
So the issue looks like its tied to the problems with the delete dialogue.

Sounds like a different scenario. I generally get correct playlists in MMA, but sometimes they go to ext sd/playlists (correct) yet other times they are in the root of ext sd. If I delete both from a file manager and resync, things work fine.

I used playlist backup to delete all my playlists from mediastore. There were duplicates. One copy of the playlist had songs, the other didn't. I synced and no playlists in mma. The media store has the correct playlists. I've repeated several times. I uninstalled and repeated. Same result. I've not been able to sync playlists on 142

When you say "I sometimes find that this doesn't clear them from the Android mediastore", do you mean that using delete in MMA removes the file from the database but does not delete them from the internal/external sd card?

The db file is in MediaMonkey\files

If you want a work around, the only thing I find to reliably resolve playlist issues right now is to make sure they're deleted from both MMA and the Android mediastore and then sync them over again. You would just be clearing the playlists out of the databases, not the tracks themselves.

To delete them in MMA is pretty obvious.

I sometimes find that this doesn't clear them from the Android mediastore though. To check that you can use an app called Playlist Backup. It's ostensibly for making backups, but it will also show you what playlists are in the mediastore and includes functions for deleting those and rescanning the mediastore. Delete any you see there, delete any you see in MMA, wifi sync, and your playlists should be right again.

It's not exactly elegant, but it at least lets you use the playlists while the MM team gets the kinks worked out. On my Gingerbread phone, I find myself having to do this pretty regularly. On my Jelly Bean tablet, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue.

Play lists disappear randomly

This has happened with the last 2 builds.

I'll sync and everything looks good. Use the player, rate songs etc..
I'll go into it a few days later and the playlists are gone. I have about 12 on the device. The last time this happened , I tried to go into tracks and hit the play all button at the top and the player froze the whole phone. Tried several times. I then reopened it. Chose the first track and played normally. Even shuffled ok.

Could the database be getting corrupt? Where would it be located?
