Good God, it actually worked. Thank you so much - all problems solved.

I will try WiFi sync. I do not use multiple Genres on any tracks.

Using WiFi sync rather than USB, I do not encounter these issues. My Artist, Album Artist, and Genre tags all come across exactly as they are in MMW, even on transcoded tracks.

Do you have multiple Genres specified in your library for the problematic tracks, and if so, do you have your sync set to sync all or just the first?

Have you ever tried WiFi sync, and if so, do you see the same issue?

MMA - Album Artist tag ignored

by x1TUFSS » Sun Aug 24, 2014 2:35 am

Having some more trouble syncing. MMW 4.1.4.1709 on my PC and MMA Pro 1.0.6.0293 on my Galaxy S5 running Android 4.4.2, auto-conversion to 100% quality M4A, synchronising via USB to SD card. The files are 100% intact with all correct tags, but in MMA, the Album Artist tag is ignored; even in 'Album Artist' view it shows things such as "Gary Moore" and "The Gary Moore Band" as separate artists. Opening the file properties in MMA shows that the 'Artist' tag has been copied over the 'Album Artist' tag. Syncing to other formats such as MP3 does not solve this problem. I have tried deleting the database so it can re-scan, to no avail. The beta version also has this bug.

Furthermore, it seems that genres such as "Neoclassical Metal" are automatically placed into the Classical Music category. This is a bit of an annoyance as, for example, Yngwie Malmsteen's body of work isn't all neoclassical or even classically-influenced - and it's hard cataloguing all of his work in such a system.

Thanks in advance.

Scratch this, changing the file format to M4A also gets around this problem. Didn't think it would fool Android given that it's the same format, but either way, it's good to solve this. Hopefully someone else will learn from my mistakes.

AAC 'Artist' tag bug?

I run MMW 4.1.4.1709 on my PC and MMA Pro 1.0.6.0293 on my Galaxy S5 running Android 4.4.2, and sync (with auto-conversion to ~210kbps VBR AAC) to \Music\ on my 128GB SD card. All of the files show up with no artist tags (Unknown Artist), and out of track order. Using MP3 instead solves the problem, but I prefer to use the more efficient AAC.

I am aware that this has been a problem with Android for a while, but when I searched on Google, all of the results were from at least 2 years ago. Furthermore, I read that MMA uses its own database to avert Android's ignorance of AAC tags; why is it having no effect? It baffles me. The files themselves are 100% in order, even after being copied to the phone. Unlike most others who have suffered this issue, album art works perfectly. The program written to combat this problem, MediaFix, is not supported on Android 4.4.2, so there's no way I can fix this issue myself.
