I did nothing special. I get on the zen playlists for all the playlists and folders marked for synchronization in mediamonkey. btw i use auto-synchronization to select them. all playlists options are ticked in the device configuration tab.

I'd be interested to know how you get playlists to your Zen. I have a 32g Zen and it does not recognize MM's playlists.

I have a Creative Zen 4 GB and works like a charm with mediamonkey. Everything from album art to playlists. I love this player because it's easy to use, has a big bright screen, good sound quality and gapless playback. Now I regret the 16 GB model since it seems to disappear from market.

i'm using a Sansa e260. it's so incredibly easy to sync, i was amazed. i just plugged it in, MM recognized it right away, then started to "send" files to it via MM. it has worked perfect every time/

I will provide what help I can. Sorry if it is a bit wordy.

I can only speak about Sony players that I have. I have the following players (all are flash players): NWZ-A818 (8GB), NWZ-A816 (4GB), and NWZ-E438 (8GB). Each of these players works very well with MediaMonkey (MM). Music and playlists sync perfectly with my players.

As far as what sync means, I can only give you my own opinion. For me, it is an operation that does the following: (1) MM compares the songs that are on my player against what MM says should be on my player, then (2) deletes any songs that should not be on my player, and (3) adds any songs that are missing from my player, and finally (4) updates the playlists on my player. At the end of the operation what is on my player and what MM says should be on my player are in perfect sync.

With my Sony players, sync is basically a one-way operation, any changes I need to make (ratings, song information, and so on) have to made in MM. Also, much of the song's ID3 tag information (such as ratings, play count, and the album artist) aren't used directly on my Sony player (but can be used indirectly via playlists). Finally, when I play a song on my Sony player it doesn't change the play count in MM.

For example, I have MM set up where only songs rated 3 stars or higher are loaded on my player. If I want to add or remove a song from my player, I just change its rating and the next time I sync my player the song will be added/removed from my player (depending on what the rating is).

One quirk I have found when syncing actually works to my advantage. I've found that if I sync a playlist that contains only songs rated "Unknown" or 0 stars to my player, each time I sync my player, MM takes the songs from that playlist that are on my player and changes their ratings to 1 star, then they are replaced in the playlist and on my player by other unrated or 0 star songs. This is handy for podcasts when I want them loaded in order with the oldest ones first, each time I sync my player each podcast is replaced by the next one in order.

Basically, this is my experience with my Sony players. It is likely that other players handle it differently, and that syncing might more of a two-way process (such as changes made on the player being passed on to MM and vice versa).

I hope that helps.

This is my first post. I want to start it by saying I love Media Monkey. I use a Zune currently and I was so frustrated with the Zune PC software. I could not edit tags the way I wanted to . A lot of artists I listen to will release free mp3 albums but they are tagged terribly (ie Artist name is in the Track Title and vice versah). A friend suggested Media Monkey and I love it. As a PC program it does everything I want.

But right now I am ripping CDs, tagging albums, and in general organizing my music hard drive with MM. But then I have to open up the Zune software in order to use my portable device. It sucks. I don't like wasting the memory. In general I have to close MM and open Zune because it's too much for my computer to handle.

So my questions are:

1) What MP3 Players syncs best with MM? I would prefer memory 16GB and up and not an Ipod....I have been looking at the new Sony Walkman but it is so expensive and don't know if I can justify. I am also interested in Creative players but I understand they have had some serious problems with MM and I am unsure if they have been resolved. I have also looked into a Samsung 8GB and if that played well with MM I would consider it. Do Archos players work well?
Any input or suggestions would be helpful. I want to stop using two different programs.

2) What does 'sync' really mean? Does that mean when I listen to a song on my MP3 and then sync with MM it go towards my 'count'?

Thanks for your time. I appreciate it.

Darius
