I have reproduced the problem with given files. It is combination of more things, tracked as: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15666

FYI: MiPi replicated the issue, we are looking into it, thanks.

Hi,
thanks for supplying the Flac files via PM, nevertheless I cannot replicate the issue.
But I guess that it is probably specific to the mapped drives, I am going to do some tests with mapped drives and let you know.

BTW: I suppose that MM4 exhibits the same issue?

To give more info:
The problem with these files is being experienced in 2 different NAS drives, and 3 different PCs (home and office). Only in one of the NAS drives, folder "Música clásica" has the trailing space, so I don't think that is the trailing space what is impeding the saving to tags.

All of these PCs are runnig MM5 version 2173.
Both NAS drives are MyCloud Home, and Z: is configured as a mapped network drive, but through WD Discovery Utility.

I have tested mentioned path and it works for me in 2173. Only - do you really have folder "Música Clásica " with trailing space? Could you delete the space and try again?

Z:\Música Clásica \Ravel, Maurice\Lorin Maazel - Orchestre National de la R.T.F\Ravel- L'Enfant et les sortilèges - Fantaisie lyrique\19 Lorin Maazel - Orch Nal de la R.T.F - ROndes des Chauves-Souris 'Rends-la moi' [La Chauve-Souris, L'Enfant].flac

has only 249 chars, so it isn't even exceeding the known 260 chars limit (MM4 limitation).

Are you using the newest MM5 version -- 2173 ?
What is the drive Z: ? Is it a mapped network drive?

This is an issue I am having with some 15 files that, no matter how many times I have edited the tags, they always appeared with the tag fields empty. I thought it was some special failure in the track files themselves, and they positively have had before some kind of failure, since some data, sopposedly trasfered from freeDB, was missing or lost too. For instance, those tracks appears in MM5 without track#, trackname or Album.

So I did the following: I made an edition via Windows Properties > Details, filling there only some fields like trackname (my goal was to rescue the long filename that contained the complex and long tackname) before shortening the track filename. So I did it, and the information was written and saved to the file, via Windows. Later, with the problematic track renamed, I reloaded it into MM5 DB and completed the edition (Composer, Album, Artists, Directos, Genre, etc., etc.) and saved the new properties to the file. Success! Inspecting the file via Windows>Properties>Data, all new info was registered there. Did the same with other problematic tracks with the same successful results. So MM5 could save tags to file when all those losng filenames were renamed and shortened.

An example of a problematic path/trackfile, not yet edited, would be:
"Z:\Música Clásica \Ravel, Maurice\Lorin Maazel - Orchestre National de la R.T.F\Ravel- L'Enfant et les sortilèges - Fantaisie lyrique\19 Lorin Maazel - Orch Nal de la R.T.F - ROndes des Chauves-Souris 'Rends-la moi' [La Chauve-Souris, L'Enfant].flac"
....pretty long.

Hi, MM5 is long-filename ready, so this shouldn't be no longer an issue.
This was fixed as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12868 and was tested on paths longer than thousand of chars.

Could you write down an example of a problematic path?

Tracks with long filenames (can't say yet how many characters in the name) are not tagged (or written) in the source file. The tags are registered in MM dB, but they can not be saved succesfully in the track file, even if you force it with Ctrl+S.

Because MM5 dB keeps the information, you don't realise this failure until you re-sync those problematic tracks to find they come back empty, as they were before your work, or if you inspect the files with Windows properties.

These long file names are common in Classical Music, especially when the track filename is built in the ripping process, combining data from different tags like Albumname + Trackname. Unfortunately, a before ripping edition is not possible at this point, because MM5 does not pass the properties edition to the files along the ripping process.
