Lowlander, there is a wifi sync app for iOS called MonkeyMote. I haven't used it, so can't speak to it. But hat's the principle behind wifi sync - that the sync will work better over the air than with a direct connection to a Windows PC and the MM interface? How does the app know where to look on the Windows PC? I'm unclear on the mechanics of it.

MediaMonkey App for iOS

I use a Windows PC (not a Mac), and I love MediaMonkey. But the number of bugs that arise as both MM and iOS get updated is just endless. It's frankly a source of constant headaches dealing with MM. I think it might help if MM would just make an app for iOS devices that would provide a library we could use instead of the Apple Music app (which is almost unusable - kind of shocking considering that Apple invented the iPod) and which could also facilitate file transfers to/from the computer. I strongly recommend this as a development effort, because the current situation with its constant bugs is kind of driving me nuts...

That said, you guys are amazingly attentive to your users and I'm happy to use MM!

Hi Lowlander

Thanks for pointing me to this thread.

I understand what you're saying but I'd still find an iPhone app very useful. I could imagine the app circumventing the existing iPhone sync altogether mechanism altogether as that's what other media apps do. Might be worth checking out AVPlayer which is fantastic app for video files and does flawless wireless synching using the FTP protocol.

Anyway, thanks for considering it!

iOS app?

by robimart » Mon Nov 17, 2014 5:02 pm

I'm surely not the first person to ask for it but I can't find any posts on the topic so here goes: how about iOS MM app that works just like the Android version?

I actually tried to switch to Android just so I could access Android MM. Unfortunately I hated the Samsung Note4 so much that I'm back on an iPhone. It would be amazing to wirelessly sync to an iOS app and take advantage of MM's many other features!

I can understand that historically Apple banned 3rd party media programmes but that hasn't been the case for some time. I use AVPlayer to wirelessly sync MKV files onto my iPhone.

I'd be happy to help co-fund this on a crowd funding platform if it's a resource constraint issue....

Thanks
robimart

An iOS App would likely in no way contribute to iOS compatibility as the underpinnings of sync would still be controlled by iOS/iTunes (it isn't the Music or Video App on iOS causing the sync problems). The only way I see that there is a possibility to circumvent this would be wifi sync, much like wifi sync on Android works around the broken MTP drivers many Android devices suffer from.

Note also that unlike Android (without MMA) that iOS already allows for syncing of play counts and tag changes as well as last.fm submissions, making a MediaMonkey App much less needed on iOS than it was on Android. I also wonder if Apple may be more restrictive to Apps when it comes to media Apps making development more challenging (although Androids fragmentation ain't no breeze either).

Note that I'm not saying there shouldn't be a MMi, but I don't think it would solve the problems that are hoped to be resolved.

Yeah, I guess the dev's will need to maintain compatibility with existing ways of syncing.
If there were a MediaMonkey for iPhone (iOS?), at least there would be an alternative to waiting for MM to catch up with the hardware and/or iOS changes that Apple throws out at least once a year.
Yeah, apps can be broken as well, but I'd consider a fix for the app/MM to be more in the dev's control then the current ways of getting music on my iPhone from MM.
I'd be very happy to use an iOS App to "sync" my music/podcasts [to the App]. I do this in many ways now, by using other 3rd party music/podcast apps anyway.
I have a life time licence for MM, and I am finding I am using it less and less because of sync issues with my iOS's devices.
I'd be happy to pay again for a MM iOS app if I could get some reliability back.
If the wireless API's are already in MM for the Android version, why not consider it?

Well, we would still have to worry about this, because apple doesn't make it so easy to communicate with the iPhone, especially over USB.

+1

Yeah, there are now MediaMonkey's for Android and Windows 8.
An iPhone app version using the same API's MM Android uses would be great.
It would mean you wouldn't need to worry about Apple changing things and screwing MM up.
d_itunes4.dll is a poor subsitute and has many many many issues, and I'm not sure the developer has the time for it lately.

MediaMonkey for iOS/iphone

This week i thought it would be great if I had a simplified version of MediaMonkey running on my new iPhone 5!

I could use it as a player, but also to do some of the things that I love about MediaMonkey like
- edit tags on the device
- download missing album art on the device
- create playlists
- update my podcasts

Do you think this is a good idea?
or are there already replacement players that meet everyone's needs?
