I've tried replicating this to no avail. Please let me know if you come up with any more insight as to what actions cause the problem. thx.

Hi Rusty,

I monitor my database and have all the options enabled. My wife's database sits on a Win98 machine so, even though her computer is an XP macine, monitoring isn't available to her. So I guess the answer is NO, it's not related to monitoring.

Is it related to movement of songs in/out of folders that are monitored?

If yes, you may be able to resolve this by enabling the 'Remove Unavailable Tracks' option on the File Monitor configuration panel. This will ensure that entries are deleted from the DB when they're moved out of the folder (this option isn't enabled by default only because the resulting deletion of database entries can be surprising to some users).

Hi Rusty,

I wish I could tell you how to recreate the problem, but unfortunately I can't. It seems to be related to "moving" songs from one folder to another. I did manage to correct the problem, but I would not suggest the solution to novices. I closed MM, opened the database using MS Access, and then did a search on Song Title for one of the duplicates. I found two entries, noted the path on each one and then deleted the incorrect one. I repeated this for the other songs, closed the file and then started MM. The duplicates were gone, no dead links, and the song count was correct. I then did the same on my wife's computer and her two "duplicate" entries are gone too.

Dave

Duplicate titles in database

Interesting, haven't seen this sort of problem in awhile, though something similar was discussed (re. an earlier build) in http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=382 .

If possible it would be really helpful if you could describe when these duplicates appear (i.e. what specific sequence of actions triggers them). You have a pretty complex setup, so this could in fact be legitimate behaviour (e.g. since you use the File Monitor, your database gets updated automatically with files that have changed in any monitored folders. So if you deleted the files in your staging directory, and then recopied new ones, the File Monitor would add the new ones, but won't delete the old ones).

thx.

Duplicate Song Titles in Database

by mister_rdz » Sun Aug 17, 2003 9:06 am

Hi Rusty,Jiri

I have a situation where 4 songs are listed (only one listing) in Duplicate Titles, and I can not find the duplicate. If I delete the song from the duplicate listing, as in remove it from library, it isn't available when you do a search. My wife has 2 in her database.

What is more interesting is that the music database she looks at is on our file server, while mine is a duplicate copy on my computer. By duplicate copy, I mean an exact copy because I frequently synchronize the two databases to prevent lose of data if there should be a hard drive crash. The point o mentioning this is that our duplicates are not the same!

Regards,

Dave
