HDD's are all local.. So, I uninstalled MM completely and went through my test (opening up one folder at a time, then backing out to see if the folder jumped to the top of the list as the most recently modified folder) and sure enough I had some folders whose 'Date modified' were updated to the current date..
i found this article on Microsoft's website (

So, I just re-installed Windows completely.. I've installed MM first thing.. So far it's working without any issue.. i'll be testing it vigorously to see if my issue comes back..
