The plugin d_WMDM.dll also appeared to cause MM to continue running in the background on my system. Deleting it fixed it.

hey, I think I might know what's causing this problem. anyway i had the same problem and I did exactly what you said, and it worked for me. d_WMDM i figured probably has to do with Windows Media DRM files. Anyway, on this install of XP that I'm running media monkey on right now, I basically broke the windows DRM support on the computer as a hack to remove the DRM from certain files I needed to play on an iPod (audio books). Anyway, that's my theory as to what's causing the hanging when mediamonkey closes.

That is really strange You should always do END TASK or END PROCESS TREE.

Just adding that I too have the same issue. Right now I have 3 MediaMonkey.exe running in Task Manager > Processes!
They're not listed in Applications, just Processes.
If I start another instance of MM, it just hangs on "Reading tracks..."
I can't even do a "Close Process Tree" on them. Only option is to reboot.
Files are on a local drive.

Win XP sp3, MediaMonkey_3.1.0.1256

Can devs please ask all of you for small debug so that we can make fix instead of using hack/workaround?

Hint: When you create Debug Log We only need lines that are in the middle of two "-------" lines and one of lines contain word "Exception".

The program remained in the Process Manager.
My solution.
Delete the plugin "d_WMDM.dll".
But why this Plugin? I tried the error to 3 PCs to reproduce. no success.
I hope that help you.
Probably this:
