That's my pet-peeve too.

SimplifyMedia is taking in use DAAP to make it able to listen to music from a remote location yes. DAAP is just a protocol that helps doing this.

I'm using MediaMonkey for local music and Winamp + SimplifyMedia myself to be able to listen to music from my home-library. Hate using two mediaplayers though...

So that's it? Because I know what it did for itunes, but I was wondering if there was a way that I could alter/tag my media library from another computer across the internet so I can just have this huge remote library. I heard of people doing it with AJAX applications. It'd be easy for someone with a laptop that has a main library at home to listen through DAAP and not have to deal with AJAX. Right now I'm doing it by organizing my home library with mediamonkey and listening to it through Winamp + Simplify Media. Or am I just mistaken about all of this? I'm fairly new to programming/networking.

DAAP is a protocol for sharing music across a LAN. You can read more about it at Wikipedia.

Not just simplify media, but aren't there other things you could do with DAAP?

by Pekanorth » Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:57 pm

Yes. Understandable that SimplifyMedia requires DAAP. Would love to have DAAP in MM as music @ home would be much easier.

Absolutely on my wishlist. :)

Does that I mean I have to wish for DAAP functionality in Mediamonkey? Because, going beyond just SimplifyMedia that would make Mediamonkey WAY better.

Sent them an email, which it seems I am not the first to do. Looks like they have looked at MM allready.
SimplifyMedia wrote:We have heard from a number of Media Monkey fans, and as a user myself,
I understand why. It is a fantastic program for maintaining a large
music library.

For us to integrate with a music player, the player has to have some
network awareness. iTunes uses DAAP, and with a plugin, Winamp can as
well. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any existing DAAP or UPnP
extensions for Media Monkey. This would be a precondition for us to
provide support.
Looks like I have another thing to my wishlist. :)

You never know about that, who knows they maybe find MM as interesting market to support. It cost nothing to ask and explain all the benefits to them.

I could say that it could be really possible to make plugin for MM. At least from what I see on their screenshots.

Kinda feared that it is in SimplifyMedias hands. Not that I think we will see any plugin in the nearest future, but one can allways hope. It's a great application.

by Peke » Thu Nov 29, 2007 8:10 am

As they are already making plugins for iTunes and Winamp I suggest you to contact them and see if they are willing to make support for MediaMonkey.

We will try help them in making plugin, but as they keep strict security policy regarding legality from brief look it is best that they make plugin.

Simplifymedia is a way of sharing music with your friends by streaming it to eachother. Winamp and iTunes are the only players with this plugin avaliable (you get it when you download simplifymedia) and I can't say I'm to fond of these two players.

Not sure if mediamonkey-crew can do this or this is something that needs to be done from simplifymedias side. One can find it on simplifymedia.com.
