Movie Collection Software

I use MediaMonkey for my music too, and I’ve had the same thought. Lately I’ve been using something else to manage and watch my movie collection, and it actually gives me a similar kind of clean, organized feeling. Still, I agree. If MediaMonkey ever made a version for movies, that would be perfect.

With movie track after you have downloaded the info and art on a movie in the database you can then point the database to your file and it will read all the info from the file (bitrate, resolution, file size, etc.) It's great, and like the other person said, its free!

Does any of these movie collection program have a feature for searching through harddrives for .avi movies (divx), and import movie info/cover from IMDB from the filename etc?

I have found the best to be MovieTrack v3.41 from http://www.movietrack.net/ and best of all IT'S FREE.
It imports ALL DATA from IMDB

My problem with most of these programs is that they are focused on the movies I own, but I'm more interested in tracking the movies I don't own. I like to keep track of movies that I'm interested in seeing, and to record my thoughts/rating for movies that I have seen. It might be possible with some of these programs, but they don't seem geared for it.

www.collectorz.com have a movie collector program. i've not tried it, but i have music collector and photo collector - both are excellent products and their user support is 2nd to none.

Exactly...and I was posting my question and did my own research based on the criteria that I wanted to keep my own movie collection on my PC with all kinds of information, like actors etc... so what you are saying is that IMDB is not made for these kind of programs, while almost all of them use it....now isn't that funny?!?

I understand, but keep in mind that the two are designed for different purposes. DVD Profiler is a local program you install to track your DVD collection. IMDB is a web site to look up information about movies, whether you own them or not. Many people use it to watch trailers and read comments about movies to help them select what movies they want to watch.

Any program or web site could seem bad if you are trying to use it for something other than what it was intended for.

It's not that I don't like IMDB...it is just painfully slow...dvd profiler uses it's own database, filled by users, maintained by themselves for correct information as much as possible, and it's FAST!!!. It also contains information on dvd's of specific countries, all features, etra's, subtitles, etc. It's just complete. And if you have it registered you can download full size dvd box screens.

So for dvd's the information is much more detailed and updates much much faster than that IMDB...so that's why I like dvd profiler's database much more....

Just curious, why do you hate IMDB so much? Do you know of a better site for movie metadata?

Yes, but remember that this interface is used to get the informations; if you want some smart presentation you can use templates

My Number One:
1: DVD Profiler: Ok...I can only add dvd's, but the info you get about these dvd's is just amazing, and also the support for other countries like the Netherlands, oh man!!!

What I have done now is just added 3 tag, dvd, vhs and other. Now I can easily check a checkbox and filter by using these.

But especially for dvd's: There is NO comparison in program than this one. and also a fast database, not the fucking slow IMDB. ohh...and UPC codes RULE!!!!

) to retrieve infos from major web sites from all around the world (yes, it's true). Very active forum, too.

I would love to see mediamonkey have a section for moveis, my movie collection is starting to get out of control (about 0.5 terrabytes of about 200 ripped DVD; DVD Decrypter R.I.P.).

And I'm starting to lose track of which movies I have watched and which epsiode I'm upto in a series.
