I see, that matches my memory and historical usage, AND clarifies the consequences of not aligning them. Thanks!

Could you explain further? How is it used/differentiate from album for grouping files?

And, regarding usage, in that case, is it better to ignore artist and just put artists into album artists? Why have two? (i.e. why imply there be any such thing as an "album wide" artist, when attribution is actually per track anyway?)

Album Artist is still required in MediaMonkey to define which files belong on an Album (together with Album).

Hi everyone, it seems that in recent years "album artist" and "artist" is becoming redundant, and "artist" would be the superior choice. Is this accurate?

Is there a general best practice on how to use each, especially since we can have multiple of each?
