Thanks for the tip. I knew about the auto playlist and it does work for that example. But I have to write playlist expression for everything. With MM4 and Magic nodes the whole tree shows up dynamically, both in Media Monkey and in Sonos hitting the Media Monkey server.

Although the interface of MM5 / 2024 is *much* better, I find that managing 130K+ tracks is much easier in MM4 with the two extensions (Nodes and Regexp) than the native features of MM5. I have seen elsewhere that the reason nodes can't be done is performance, but when you have 64GB DDR4, an i9 core ultra and a Samsung 990 NVME, there is no performance problem, for me anyway. MM4 pops, even with all those nodes.

Maybe someday when I am bored I will take a look at the new MM API and see if it can be done.

You can use Grouping contains Hair Metal in AutoPlaylists. There is no replacement for the third party Magic Nodes Addon in MediaMonkey 5/2024 though.

However there is the Replace String Addon for MediaMonkey 5/2024, while not as powerful as the third party RegExp Addon it can replace hairy with hair.

It is this exact feature that keeps me from giving Ventis any more money because I refuse to upgrade from the superior MM4.

With MM4 and magic nodes I can use the multi value field grouping field to display a tree of fine-grained subgenres. Thus ->

Rock; Hair Metal; Soundtrack ->

Grouping
Rock
Hair Metal
Soundtrack

This is indispensable for me in creating playlists.

Second feature is RegExp Find and Replace, another great script in MM4, with it I can

Rock; Hairy Metal; Soundtrack -> Rock; Hair Metal; Soundtrack

I would rather put up with an ancient interface than lose these functions as would the rest of my family since we all have huge collections.

[REQ] make Grouping a Multi value Field

by Nixander » Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:16 am

Hi,

I use grouping for music Category's (for example Rock) and Genre for subgenres (Alternative Rock, Indie Rock) etc.
I come from musicbee, where it was possible to use Multiple Values in the Grouping field which makes sense, when it is used for genres. Now, the column browser looks like a mess.

That's my Request :).

Or is there another multi Value field I could use for that purpose? Or is it possible to make custom multi value fields?

Thank you very much!
