This happens when the Album Artist field differs from track to track. In the standard metadata system an album is defined by two fields: Album and Album Artist. The Artist field can differ from track to track, but for a set of tracks to be considered one album, both the Album field and the Album Artist field MUST be the same for each track. This is basic metadata management. It does not matter whether you use mp3tag, MediaMOnkey, dbpoweramp or some other program as long as it saves metadata to the file.

Media Monkey separates this into a different album. I then used Mp3Tag to change the one file with different artist to the artist that released the album. But when I rescan the same thing appears, an extra album with the two artists. When it is finished rescanning should I be removing the files that are in the log at the end of the rescan? And will this only affect the database and not the files that are on my computer?

Thank you.

Hey, dujuarez2021,
I wanted to share an item I've raised, as it seems it might be related,
viewtopic.php?t=107570 Director Tag Linked w/ Artist Tag [#21566]
if so, Album Artist in Mp3Tag made no change in how it was read in Media Monkey, but it did provide me with a safe backup field. There is a feature in MM to disable saving to and modifying files. I would recommend this until worked out, it overwrote a lot of my files with junk. I would try it out for your self with a few files, but just warn against making large sweeping saves to your actual files.

You can edit this in MediaMonkey itself: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... ist_Albums

It sounds like you may have edited Artist, instead you need to edit Album Artist. It needs to be the same for all files on the Album.

I'm trying to get my albums in order. Some albums from one artist have another artist on one particular song. Media Monkey separates this into a different album.
