M4A on mma Version 2.1.0.1273 NOW WORKING!

by sohosynergy » Thu Aug 28, 2025 1:17 pm

Dear MMA Development Team,

re: Re: Version 2.0.2.1222 Cannot play AAC or M4A on Pixel 9

It's been a long anxious wait to have the "new" codecs supported in MMA, but wow was it worth the wait!

A new notification came up on my Pixel 9 stating the new beta for MMA (2.1.0.1723) was available.

With fingers crossed, I clicked the update, AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!

You see I converted all my music DVD's to FLAC, then to save a bit of space I loselessly converted them to M4A but MMA would not play them so I had to resort using MMW to sync without conversion then use Rocketplayer to play the files.

BUT I DID NOT GIVE UP on MMA, and I was NOT disappointed.

Your latest update now supports ALL my M4A files and well with the EQ enabled sounds BETTER than what Rocketplayer does.

Finally, once ecosystem for my music enjoyment. MMA for Android (Licenced) and MMW for Windows (Licensed). Now to get a license for my partners Android and set up her music syncs.

Thank you again Dev team and keep up the great work on the best Music/Video Player for both Android and Windows (BTW for those of you playing with Windows Server, Media Monkey works flawlessly with Server 2016-Server 2025 including Insiders Versions)

MMW can auto-convert on Sync, which leaves the originals untouched.
Hi Lowlander,

Yes I was considering that, however, I prefer the best quality I can get ;-) For the time being, until you do have the feature, I'm simply transferring without conversion and using the 3rd party player.

Thank you for responding!

Here are the results:

The files are natively supported, however the bitrate isn't.

Rocketplayer has implemented their own system codecs for higher sample and bitrates and has been working form me for over five years >translation>MediaMonkey for Android needs to enhance the built-in codec support ;-) Below is the link in their developer forum demonstrating how it is done **HINT**

Why am I pursuing this? I LOVE MediaMonkey and want to solely use your products for my devices!

Good question! I'll check the specs for Pixel 9 and software details for RocketPlayer and get back to you!

Version 2.0.2.1222 Cannot play AAC or M4A on Pixel 9

I converted all my .FLAC files to .M4A, synced them to my Pixel 9 running Beta 2.0.2.1222 of MediaMonkey for Android. On Windows 11 I am running MediaMonkey Pro Desktop 2024.0.0.3081 Gold (Lifetime). As the files are lossless I didn't want to convert them. MediaMonkey Pro Desktop has no issues playing the .M4A but the Android version just skips each track. I've tried several prior versions of the MMAndroid with the same issue.

Here's the MediaArena details of one file

ID : 1
Format : ALAC
Codec ID : alac
Codec ID/Info : Apple Lossless Audio Codec
Duration : 6 min 47 s
Duration_LastFrame : -64 ms
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 845 kb/s
Nominal bit rate : 1 411 kb/s
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate : 44.1 kHz
Bit depth : 16 bits
Stream size : 41.0 MiB (99%)
Default : Yes

I then tried another Android app (RocketPlayer) and it has no issues playing said file. I really want to get this working so that I only use MediaMonkey for both Android and Windows.
