Hi Peke,

I took a set of 11 MP3's in my Windows MM library and did CTRL+S as suggested. I then imported those 11 MP3's into my Mac MM library and the problem with the missing and incorrect data still exists. I also imported those same 11 MP3's into my iTunes library and most of the data was correct for them, so I can't see that it's a problem with the tags on the MP3. I'm happy to send the MP3's to you if you wanted to check them and do some testing yourself? A summary of what I can see is below...

This is the properties screen of one of the MP3's I did CTRL+S on in my Windows library showing all of the fields exactly as they have been for years...

Image

This is the properties screen of that same MP3 in my Mac library. As you can see, the 'Title' and 'Album' fields have been truncated to 30 characters. The 'Album Artist' has been changed to 'Various' (which seems to be a value that MM has decided on itself as I never use that in my library). The 'Genre', 'Disc #', 'Conductor', 'Original Date' and 'Lyricist' fields are empty...

Image

And this is the properties screen of that same MP3 in my iTunes library which doesn't have all of the fields that MM has, but you can see that the 'Title' and 'Album' fields haven't been truncated and the 'Album Artist' and 'Disc #' fields are showing the correct values...

Thanks
Matt

ps. As a further test, I've also just added those 11 MP3's to my MM library on a secondary windows laptop that I have and they all imported 100% correctly with all of the tags populated and even the album art and lyrics populated, so I'm absolutely sure that there are no issues with the tags on the MP3's themselves

Try to use CTRL+S on PC to Write tags to files and them compare them to see if there is a difference?

Thanks for the reply Peke.

I did read that post about how to include images in the message, but I tried various things to get it to work and nothing did. I've tried a few other things this time and have corrupted the URL enough that it allowed me to send this message, so that's a win.

This is a screenshot of 3 files in my MM library on windows which shows all of the problematic fields mentioned in my initial post with the correct values in them...

...and this is a screenshot of the same files after being imported to my MM library on the Mac where you can see that the data is either missing, incorrect or truncated...

Thanks
Matt

Incomplete and missing metadata being imported to Library

Macbook Model = 14" Apple M3 Pro chip with 18gb memory
Mac OS = Tahoe 26.5.1 (25F80)

Hi,

Let me start by saying that I am really excited to see that a Mac version of MM is now available, so as soon as I found out earlier today I downloaded it straight away, bought a Lifetime Gold license and imported my music library of 5,067 MP3 and FLAC files. I have found an initial bug that is detailed below and will report any other things that I find when I come across them.

This is a strange one, as the metadata for various fields is either not being added, is the wrong value or is being truncated to 30 characters. Only 214 of the 5,067 files in my library have been imported correctly with nothing missing. The fields that are affected on the ones imported incorrectly are...

Empty fields with no values in them = Disc #, Conductor, Genre, Lyrics, Grouping, Artwork
Album Artist - when it's populated, it contains the same value as the 'Artist' field rather than the 'Album Artist' value (which is always different in my case), but some records are blank and the ones over 30 characters have been truncated.

I have tried to add screenshots to this post using the instructions in the 'Forum rules / Using the forum / Attaching screenshots' post, but I keep getting the error message "You don’t have rights to post image, email or url links that are external to this domain" when submitting despite inserting a space into the URL as suggested. I can email screenshots to you though if you need to see them.

I have imported my library into iTunes to make sure that the files do actually contain the metadata and they have all been imported successfully with all of the blank values detailed above showing correctly, so there is no issue with the MP3/FLAC files themselves.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks
Matt
