There is no specific script but I guess you can write one to fix all the meta data for you. It really is hard to deal with downloaded stuff as most are peppered with a lot of side comments and additions you can go without.

I like to keep it simple and just maintain the title, artist, album and the genre. Everything else, I try to erase them as I do not think they would be of much use anyway.

Highlighted in red tends to indicate duplicate filename. You should tag your files on the CD before ripping and then rip the CD. For Filename adjust the mask to your needs. These things are explained in the Help file.

Hi,

I am a new user and don't know where to begin. I run a dual-boot system with a 250GB hard disc drive using Windows Vista Home Basic; a 160GB hard disc drive using Windows XP Home, and I recently purchased two 2-terabyte external hard drives, one of which I connected to my computer. I also run MM Gold 3.2.5.1306.

I want to rip my entire collection of more than 1,700 CDs to the 2-TB drive. I have the drive set up with empty folders for Compact Discs (main folder) and a folder for each music genre. For classical music I want to organize my music by composer, artist(s), orchestra and tracks. For non classical I want to organize by artist and album title, and tracks. Compilations would be broken down by genre, title and tracks.

One problem I'm having is that the Freedb database doesn't recognize most of my CDs. Another is Digital Rights Management, which doesn't give any rights to the consumer to archive his own collection. An example is that on my copy of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's four-CD set of his complete string symphonies on the BIS label, MM won't convert the .cda (compact disc audio) file of disc 3, track 7; or those of disc 4; to MP3, showing the track listing(s) in red. The explanation is that either the file name is too long, or the file cannot be created. Furthermore, it seems that the default file path assumes everything, even non classical CDs, is a string symphony.

How do I get everything the way I want it? There doesn't seem to be any way through MM to circumvent the DRM. Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

I tried that for a while as well. But I found that I started relying upon the Artist nodes a lot more and if they aren't in the Artist field (seperated by a ";" in my config) that I wasn't able to find all the tunes associated with an artist.

When I tag...........I add the additional artist to the song title, example = I Ain't Missing You (feat) John Waite. I leave the artist as Alison Krauss because that way my artist field is less cluttered and it lists the primary artist only but I have the additional artist easily available.

BTW.........I'm a big fan of Alison. :D

Yes, it is cool.

I have a further question. Is there a script or something that will take the FIRST artist in the Album-Artist field and copy it to the Artist field ?

I think that I need to do this for the sake of organising my music in terms of files.

Thanks

To be even MORE particular - the Album Artist houses the name of the "main" artist that released the track. I do exactly what Lowlander does for the Artist value.

The best part? The track will show up in both artist nodes! How cool is that?

I separate them with the default separator ; so Alison Krauss;Union Station

I am new to organizing music.

When I have an artist who is singing with an another artist, how do I reflect this in the data ?

E.g
Alison Krauss:
Sings on her own
Sings with her Band - Union Station
Sings with another artist.

Thanks
