Hi,
Problem was in files and original app that saved tags. It is primary MM5 fix, but due the low risk it is merged into MM4 also https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view ... 634#c58156 otherwise it would be MM5 fix as MM was not causing the issue.

Thank you for updating this Topic's title.

One more thing, although the new 1906 version includes the fix to this major bug it is not included in its changelog - https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view ... ad75c2f5b1

So can you please add issue 16634 to the changelog ?

Hi,
Added nice little Green Checkmark on first post.

Thank you for patience and sample files. It was tricky one to catch without sample files.

Happy Monkeying!

MediaMonkey 4.1.29.1906 beta was released yesterday. One of its fixes is this Album & Genre tags issue.
I tested it on thousands of tracks and found no problem. Both Album and Genre tags are correct. :)

MediaMonkey 4.1.29.1906 beta :
https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 32#p468532

The issue's page:
0016634: Album tag not read from M4A files - MantisBT - https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16634

The issue happened on both MM4 & MM5 and was fixed on both.

Again, to the moderators PLEASE rename the topic of this thread to "[Solved] MM doesn't read Album & Genre tags of some m4a files"
Although I edited the opening post of this thread and added a remark that the current topic's tile is not correct changing the title will keep things clearer (for example, for a user who still has this issue with m4a files because he hasn't yet updated his MM and searches the forum for answers)

Thanks again to the devs who fixed this longtime issue :)

Lowlander wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 11:16 am You're problem is not caused by Infer File Properties (and has been fixed as well), and the default only guesses empty values and doesn't write them to the files until you make an edit to the files.

I do recommend turning it off before you start scanning though.
Yes. When I got so many empty albums/genres I couldn't believe MM couldn't read correctly the tags on my files so I was (too  ) confident it was the "infer file properties".

To the moderator : I think you should rename the topic of this thread to :
"[Solved] MM doesn't read Album & Genre tags of some m4a files"

...and thanks again @Lowlander for advancing the solution of this issue. :)

Great news :D :D :D
Thank you !!

BTW - a moment ago I decided to send you another file. Please ignore it because I sent a wrong file again :)

I think it is in your Outbox until I open the message.

I can confirm, that it is the same issue and already works after the fix.

yes, I mistakenly sent you a "wrong" file and deleted the message 10 minutes later while it was still in the "outbox"
A minute ago I sent you the correct file.
Lets see how long until you get it....

I can see only message "This message was deleted by its author."
I think post should be immediate, only we do not read it always immediately.

I sent you a private message with a file 10 minutes ago but it is still in my forum account "outbox".
2 days ago I sent a private message to @Lowlander and it took 40 minutes for it to be sent !!
Is this the normal time ?

Yes, you could send me one file with genre, that is not shown in MM, I will check, whether it is the same, already fixed, issue. Thanks.

You are correct that there was no GENRE in the 4 tracks I sent (at that time I thought there was only an ALBUM issue).
Do you want me to PM you some tracks (tagged with foobar2000) WITH GENRE (before the MM scan) ?

In the files I have from you there are no genres tagged. Two have only empty genre tag and two no genre tag at all. In case it will be the same situation, i.e. two genre tags, then new MM version should read the tag with the value and ignore the empty, just like it will do for album or other tags.

Will the fix include fixing of the missing GENRE tag ?
MM as of now can't read any of my (m4a) files' GENRE tag (see my previous post and screenshot)

The issue should be fixed in the next beta release. The affected files contain two instances of the same album tag, one with value and one without the value, that was causing problems.
