Thanks so much for your help, but it seems I can do this easily on MusicBee: just add a History tab and there it is, the evolving history of all the tracks I'm playing. So I'm going to go with that for my player for now. But thanks again for your assistance.

Actually, it seems quite simple for me, in the current beta version 2024 where tracks almost always play in displayed order.

The highlighted track is currently playing. If you started from the beginning of the randomized list, then everything above the highlighted track has played, and everything below it has yet to play.

If you are playing a specific playlist, randomized or otherwise, in addition to this above you can open the playlist in the main window, and then sort that playlist by last played, and find out the exact dates the tracks were last played.

Then, you could easily add only the not recently played ones to now playing (clear the list first if you like) and thus only have the unplayed ones in there.

This seems quite sufficient info for me.

That's not possible, there is no report per Playlist. An AutoPlaylist could be used, but it's global and track play based, not Playlist track plays based.

I'm sorry, I know I'm coming across as a thick Irishman (and I am!) but I can't understand it. The "last played" seems to only refer to when a specific track was last played? So if I had played, say, I don't know, "Born to Run" last week and played it again today it would show last played that week? From the little I understand. But what I'm looking for is what as I say another media player does: after each track in a shuffled playlist has been played it racks it into a "songs played" report that keeps count. Like this:

If there's any way I can do this with MM I'd really appreciate it if you could show me the steps. Sorry for being a nuisance. And thanks for your help so far.

Last Played is a field that can be displayed as a Column. When it's displayed as a column you can sort on that column.

The AutoPlaylist method is another option.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have heard this, yes, but I don't know where to get "Last Played" from and I don't understand what "in any view" is. Could you advise how I go about doing this please? What tabs I use or where I look? Thanks.

You can sort on Last Played in any view or have an AutoPlaylist limit to x files Selected by Played (most recent).

How to see what has been played recently

Sorry if this has been asked before, but searches yielded about 1,000 separate posts, many of which have nothing to do with my question.

Which is a simple one, I hope. When playing songs off a shuffled playlist, how can I keep track of what has been played? I checked the "50 most plays" and there are songs in there I have never played, don't even know, which means I have to search through it till I find something I recognise. Is there no simple way to get a "last 10 or 20 tracks played", or even to have them displayed in one of the windows, as Real Shuffle Player does? I've used MM before but am only getting back to it now so almost but not quite a new user, so if you can reply I'd appreciate it if you'd set it out for me in easy to understand language. I know nothing of scripts, patches or whatever else is used. If it can't be done, that's fine; I'd just like to know. Right now I'm using a spreadsheet to keep track of what comes up.

Thanks for any help.
