Re: WIFI Syncing very slow [#15907]

I just experimented with MMA (beta, latest update) on a Pixel 2 XL which has nice fast wifi. I did not time it but it took hours and hours, about 6-8 at least, to do 59Gb and about 3000 tracks. That just seems obscenely slow. I had to stop it because it filled up the device (had too many photos that...

Re: What roles will MMS have?

As for the RESTful interface - it is there (in MMS), just not documented yet, mainly because this is a work in progress. Since it's open sourced though, you can look up details even before there's a documentation finished. Good to know. I should have a lot more time after the first of the year, I m...

Re: What roles will MMS have?

MMS is 'just' a server, but its UI part can be opened in any browser and it can work as a renderer then. If you do both on the same machine, you can actually have both server+renderer. So a question and a suggestion. Maybe I have the terminology wrong, but to me a renderer (at least a DLNA renderer...

Re: Is it safe to run two MM5's against the same DB and database?

I decided to do a bit of research. I use SQLite in a lot of products but never myself incorporated it into an application, so way too much time later... There are all sorts of warnings against using SQLite on file shares. Apparently the issues involved are pretty OS specific, but this warning seems ...

What roles will MMS have?

This is probably documented somewhere, and apologies for not finding it if so, but I wonder if I can go up to the top level and just ask: In your vision, for the longer run, what role will MMS vs MM5 have? I assume it will be a proprietary server for MM5 to use to obtain content from MMS's database....

Re: Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

Incidentally for those who play piano, and having nothing to do with MM5... This setup also allows one to play manually and record the keystrokes as midi, then play it back so you can hear yourself. It's truly depressing, especially since with a midi player you can slow it down and listen to every m...

Re: Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

I probably ran a couple things together... The player piano can play analog music in a special form, the right channel has keystroke information modulated into an audio signal much like an old style modem squeal. The left channel can have a (mono) audio accompaniment played through a speaker under t...

Re: Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

If anyone is curious how neat this can be, here's a 1 minute video showing a player piano (and associated lights) being invoked from a voice command to google, which runs through Home Assistant, invokes VLC on a linux box running the piano to pull a song from Media Monkey as a DLNA server on a windo...

Re: Is it safe to run two MM5's against the same DB and database?

Well, yes and no (one reading, one writing). I'm not sure how much goes in the database verses the ini or persistent.json file (also concerns for simultaneous access) but MM5 is updating stuff all the time. I had not really thought about the text files until just now, they seem even more likely to h...

Re: Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

(Feel free to move the topic if more appropriate). That's interesting way to see how to get some of the data. I'll have to try it to see if I can sniff out the post commands that might do things like "play this playlist". And if it will even respond -- some brief experiments just ended up with my br...

Re: URL's when MM5 is a server (especially playlists)

Thank you. I think I must have been going blind when I looked, or concentrating too much on that first guid, but this looks straightforward, and simple enough to pull out. I think for what I want I can just script some SQL to build the YAML I need to incorporate into Home Assistant as "scripts" whic...

Is it safe to run two MM5's against the same DB and database?

I set up the portable version on a network share, so I can alternately run it on my desktop, and leave it running as a server on a server. I have not tried running both at once, for fear bad things happen. Is it safe to do so? With MM5 (not MMS) can two instances on different systems safely access t...

URL's when MM5 is a server (especially playlists)

I created a complex mess this weekend to get a bunch of things playing from automation and various screens. Kind of a mess but it works great. One aspect of it is that I am using VLC as a media player and renderer on linux, because MM5 doesn't live there (at least not happily, plus it cannot be remo...

Re: Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

I did discover that I can sort of control MM5 from Home Assistant, at least for casting, by building a script like this: play_mm5: alias: Play on mm5 sequence: - data: entity_id: media_player.master_bedroom_mini media_content_id: http://my_mm5_ip_address:21628/ItemID=5864.flac media_content_type: au...

Remote control, Voice control, options? Server?

I'm not quite sure where to put this so apologies if it is in the wrong place. I've become a real fan of Google Play Music, and MM5's sync to it is great. And yes I know You Tube may screw that up eventually. Have you considered, or is there now (here or from third parties) any way to directly contr...
