Instead of an addon, I think this should have been a configurable option so I can turn it on or off without installing any addons.

I think lots of basic users would prefer not to bother with addons for such a simple functionality request.

Make sure you check the option to embed where possible, and look at some of the images in properties, artwork where it will say at the bottom "stored in tag" to confirm.

Once stored in tag, you can safely delete all the album.arts from your computer.

I think this misses the point. The OP would like this date to be tagged to the track automatically on first scan. This would enable it to survive any data base losses or damage, or transfer to other computer without existing database. The issue might be to make sure any acquired tracks do not alread...

You are in the wrong place, I think.

You need to edit the tags for the tracks, and then autoorganize should relocate them in your file system to match.

Move and rename is the thing to do.
