It does not need to be an open share. So you can setup your permissions on the NAS however you'd like. Then, when you add the NAS network share to the Sonos, you enter a username/password for the appropriate permissions.

I've got a LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini. It's rackmounted. Quick to setup and have not had any problems with it.

I've got a Sonos system, too. I have 4 zones (1 ZP80; 3 ZP100) playing music stored on an NAS. My wife and I each a laptop and use MM to manage ripping CDs and tagging of music stored on the NAS. IMHO, the Sonos can't be beat for ease of initial setup, the slickness of the remote, and how well the m...

fwiw: I use an NAS mapped to Z: and have not had any problems with MM recognizing the NAS on startup. I run a batch file on Windows (XP) startup that executes a single line: "Net use z: \\musicserver\share <password> /USER:<user>" and the drive seems to mount just fine. Not sure if that's ...

Vilbs: The NAS is a Lacie Ethernet Disk mini plugged directly into a Netgear switch. According to specs, the NAS is running Axentra HipServ OS. I'm pretty sure it's formatted NTFS and that's what XP is telling me right now (for what that's worth), but I can't remember formatting it, so I'm not certa...

FYI: I sent a debug log as well. My NAS is formatted NTFS. Any help would be appreciated as I currently project it will take a month to finish tagging my collection with Album Art.

Okay you talked me into it. I've downgraded to the debug beta version and I'm updating some Album Art now. One thing though -- can I create a debug log from the beta debug version, or do I need to also install your debug viewer software? (Sorry in advance for being dense.)

I’ve had a nearly identical experience as described by the OP. I’ve been using MM for several years, storing music on a spare computer running XP across a wired network. My computer is also running XP. I recently migrated the music from the spare computer to an NAS (LaCie Ethernet Disk mini), which ...

I don't understand the "server" vs. laptop distinction. I use a laptop as a "server" for my Audiotron. And there a number of products that use wifi, not FM. That leaves me with the distinction you draw between push and pull. Granted, the Audiotron is a pull device, but at least i...

There are actually a whole bunch of them: Roku, Philips Streamium, Sonos, Slim, Linksys, SMC, D-Link and others. It would depends on what feature set you're looking for. CNET talks about some of them here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4521-6531_7-5021436-2.html?tag=more There are other products, also. In...

Prioritize music server?

For what it's worth, I'd like to see the priority raised for MM to act as a streaming music server for network devices like Roku et al. The wishlist contains a lot of tweaks that will make MM more flexible to use -- and I'm all for that. But right now, I have to run different music software (eg, iTu...
