I know it sounds silly but I put an empty text file called placeholder in the folder and whenever the folder get emptied of its music? files it leaves the folder there.
It works for me

This is from all the other fields which dont have a setting ie: if the genre is blank then it will be set as "unknown"

Have you tried making a new collection in the media tree options?.
