Good news first: problem solved! However: Is is strange ... I re-checked all my settings just to make sure ...nothing, no scrobble, no now playing I changed to simple last.fm (tried this ealier with no change to the problem). SLFM has more options to change scrobbling behaviour ... MMA doesn't show ...

OK, I've moved to using the WiFi synch ... it's slower than the USB files end up in place I don't really want them but it works ... @Lowlander: Thanks for the support here... problem solved (by workaround) I didn't get around to capture the debug log ... sorry.
