I've been using this for years without issue. However I access through its UNC path ans don't store the DB on it. You could try increasing the buffer in the output plugin (switch output plugin if not available). What do you mean bu UNC path ? The DB is stored on the system computer (SSD drive) How ...

You can change database, but instead you should use Collections to separate content. This way you can use a single database without switching and still separate content.
