I have the same issue and submitted a log. Given that this is one of the most popular phones out there, I am really surprised not more people have the same issue. For me it was always this slow, but 4.0.7 it worked as it should. I have collected the log, and still need to send it in (it's o a different computer. Briefly, what I see is that the scan is fast, until it hits the first .pla file. From there, it takes 4 seconds per song. This is with the release version of the software, which worked ok for me until now (4.0.7.15...

This happens every time.
I delete the profiles, connect USB, it detects correctly.

Install MMA, have it read all media.

Connect USB again, the profiles are flipped.

The identifcation of the Phone Memory vs. SD card memory is reversed on the S3. This causes issues with MMW synching. Quick update, when uninstalling MMA completely, the synch actually works.
So this seems a MMA issue rather than a MMW issue.

When I simply unplug the cable during a synch, MMW does not recover from this and needs to be killed through the Task Manager.

I get what you're saying about switching from SD card connected directly to SD card connected within the phone. But it doesnt work if I keep it in the phone only, either. I synch my library I resynch (nothing has changed, same phone, same library, MMW 4.1.0.1610 and MMA installed) it tries to resync...
