MM will modify the album artist field when equal to the artist field the first song you edit the artist field. Lowlander, I'm not quite understanding the above sentence. Can you rephrase? Album also doesn't modify the album artist field if it has a different value than the artist field. I personall...

edit artist impact on album artist

I personally find it inconvenient that edits to the <artist> field (both through the track list and the track properties windows) trickle down to the <album artist> field. Is there any way to allow the user to choose the option to not ovewrite <album artist> when the field is already populated? This...

Yeah, this is truly a challenge. To deal with the subgenre issue, I tag all my tracks in the ??? - ?????? format where the first three question marks represent the supergenre, and everything to the right of the hyphen represents the subgenre: ELE - Trance ELE - Drum and Bass ELE - Downtempo POP - Ta...

Pablo: Thanks, but that looks pretty daunting to me. I assume I need skills with Windows Scripting in order to use this. The 'Download' appears to be just a script file, but I have no idea how I install or use it! ;) -- Terry, West Sussex, UK Go to the website linked in the first post of the magic ...

Tag From File Name issue

Just a small issue.

When updating the <artist> tag from the file name, the <album artist> tag also gets overwritten (even if it already contains something). I wish to be able to control this.

Okay, some more info:

This also happens at 1024 x 768.

It appears to happen when editing the tracks of song that is currently being played. I can't reproduce it systematically though.

The album rating field sounds nice. It would be great if the star system for track rating could also be applied to the any custom field.

I believe 2.3 introduces the ability to burn Audio CDs. MP3 CDs remain on the wishlist.

A, B and C appear in both tables. The problem (for my style of programming, at least) is not the duplicate information in itself, but that whenever you add or update a record in Artists you have to also change the sister table, even after defining relations between the tables. That's not the case w...

I think that the only way to handle this so that it will work quickly enough is by having a sister table to the songs table (i'm saying this cuz i'm dealing with about 30K tracks). I'm of the philosophy that having duplicate information is a receipt for disaster :P , so I would try to avoid sister ...

Well, scripts can create tables by executing SQL code, but I Idon't think it would be necessary here, and in general I think scripts should not modify the structure of the database. There are certainly ways to achieve that funcionality, they just seem slow since they involve parsing the artists one...

Sadao, a qualifier that keeps all but the first n characters of a field should be quite easy to add. It looks like that would do the trick for your first request, assuming that ALL your genres have the form <main genre> - <subgenre>, where <main genre> is a 3 letter word. Well, I would love to see ...

Re: My Rather significant wishlist.

File renaming support that allows you to rename on various variables ie change 01-somethingsomething__128kbit.mp3 to 01 somethingsomething.mp3 etc. MM has a very powerful renaming and reorganizing tool that can construct any path/filename combination from the track tags. an easy way to rate by mean...

Another request for you Pablo: I would like something along the lines of substr(). Or rtrim() and strlen(). The reason I need this is that I classify my music by super-genres. E.g. ELE - Ambient for ambient electronic music, ELE - Drum & Bass for drum and bass, ELE - Trance for Trance, and so on...

Hmm. Kinda weird though. It stopped happening on my laptop at work with one of the more recent beta's. It runs win2k sp4. You're right though about the OS thing though. As far as the drivers go, i'm using the ATI drivers (latest) which I imagine are relatively common. Is anybody running MM at 1600x1...
