Analyze volume and tag squares

Help , please!
I can't analyze the volume level anymore. At first I thought this was only happening to new tracks, because it keeps telling me it can't decode the file, possibly due to drm restrictions, but I found out it happens with any mp3 file, even those that had previously been analyzed.
Another problem, is the little squares that now apear in the tag fields. What are they and how do i get rid of them, without having to delete them 1 by 1 from every tag field from every new file. I have been using tagscanner for a long time, and it has always worked well, until recently. These squares only show in MM.
