Rebuild album art cache?

Post by Jon EP »

Hi, I'm doing a major revamp of my collection which involves making sure that album art is both written to tags and stored as a folder.jpg

After this operation, album art often disappears from the thumbnail view, even though it is present in tags and as a jpg, and I understand this is because of the album art cache.

Is there a way to force MM to delete and then rebuild the cache, so that thumbnails (ie., in left-most column of library view) will be updated to reflect the artwork in the tags?

Thanks,
J

I don't think there is, but you can do it manually.

MM's Temp directory is specified in the options (Tools|Options|General).
- Close MediaMonkey
- Open this directory in Explorer and delete all directories that begin with MMCache********
Skins for MediaMonkey: Cafe, Carbon, Helium, Spotify, Zekton. [ Wiki Zone ].

I've tried that as well, but still ending with wrong album art for a lot of my songs. Also there are 2 other options

1: CTRL - L --> Auto Label from the internet
2: Select all the songs, go to 'Edit' and then you see the Properties menu, go to the tab 'Illustrations' and click on 'Lookup artwork'

But the first option doesn't do very much and the second only makes things worst. So:

1. What do those 2 options do exactly?
2. How can I restore the album art of all of my songs? Help would be really appreciated

When I play songs on MMA without any album art, the app searches for it and that works pretty sweet almost all the time. Is something similar possible for MMW

You can only use it per Album. Otherwise you're making the change for all selected files, thus ending up with the wrong Artwork.

Auto-Tag from Web requires an Addon: http://www.mediamonkey.com/broken-auto-tag.htm?l=en

It sounds like your Artworks are incorrectly tagged, thus removing the cache doesn't fix that as it will still get the incorrect ones from tag on rebuild.

Thank you, the Artwork fixing tool worked for me. Too bad I lost the Artwork for all of my songs in the process.

Could you answer this question for me, since I've lost all artwork. I never download complete albums, mainly loose songs. So using 'Auto-Tag' is pretty cumbersome when it comes to 'Tag per song'.

Tools > Options > Metadata Lookup to enable this and have the Art & Details window enabled, set to Now Playing tab and showing Artwork.

Where can I find the 'Art & Details window'? And the 'Now Playing and showing Artwork'?

But does this mean that MMW starts searching for the missing artwork for each individual song automatically (even without playing songs)? Because MMA does search for missing Artwork when a song starts playing, you know where I'm getting at?

MMW only looks up Lyrics and Artwork for the song shown in the Art & Details window (Now Playing if tab is set to Now Playing and selected if the Selected tab is selected). Note that the Art & Details window is a separate window, not the Filelisting.

I'm really sorry but what do you mean with: ".....(Now Playing if tab is set to Now Playing and selected if the Selected tab is selected)...". I'm afraid I don't quite understand that 'Selected tab'.

The Art & Details window has 2 tabs, Now Playing and Selected. You can enable/disable this window under the View menu.

You can also toggle the Art & Details window off and on using CRTL+ALT+A. In most skins I think it appears in the lower right corner of the screen. Note that it is not the same as Show Art with Details or Show Art Browser with Details. If no image appears in the window, right click for a menu of choices (the choice you make then becomes the choice for all tracks that you select or which are playing - until you right-click and change your mind).
