Network drive not showing up

Post by dtsig »

I have done a search and haven't see this (hope i didn't miss it).

All my music is on an external drive on my desktop. I would like to have MM also on my laptop. So I mapped a drive to the desktop drive (o:) on my laptop. I then loaded MM and tried to Scan the drive.

But I am unable to select the drive (as o:). I looked under network/microsoft windows network/workgroup/desktop/O

It is 'looking' at all the files on the drive, currently says adding 0 of 1 (\\desktop\o\.....)

I think i remember reading somewhere that MM doesn't like "\\computer\disk" notation. Can't find it right now but sure I saw it somewhere?

But with a MAPPED drive, MM should see it as O:, a local drive. Why is it not appearing under scan? How can I get this to work?

Thanks

Actually it prefers this method over mapped drive.

hmmm must have been another product and another forum.

But you didn't give me any indication as why it would ignore the files.

1) Desktop win7, current patch level, MM gold, current release. MM has no problems seeing my 150K songs. Of course the drive is attached here so no big deal.

2) Laptop win8  current patch level (even at current patch level the ui is a piece of crap .. but i digress). Here I have tried
a) a mapped drive which MM does not see
b) using the network-computer-etc to get to the drive. It *sees* the drive and folders here but a scan does not pick up anything. ... it prints lots of titles out on the 'progress bar' at the bottom but 0 of 1 for everything.

Winamp appears to see it .. but winamp, though a great player, is not a good media library .. not like MM
File explorer sees it and will launch.

So why is MM so stubborn?

Thanks

Okay .. call me crazy. Just started up laptop for morning session and on whim tried MM again. It *sees* the O: drive and is scanning the O: drive just find now

Not sure what the problem was .. my guess would be something about win8

thanks

The O drive should have been shown as a normal drive and not under Networking.
