Validating how I installed MM

Post by pop77 »

I am lifetime Gold member of MM. Based on previous suggestions, when an upgrade for MM 4.X was made available, I think I reinstalled MM as portable, it has been a while and I am not 100% whether I installed it as portable or not.

Looks like the database files in the original location (App Data/Roaming/MediaMonkey) is the latest though I installed a a portable! This is important because I want to ensure I backup the database and ini files.

Is there a way to find out to which database my current MM is pointing to? I could not find it within MM.

Not within MediaMonkey, but a search for mm.db on your whole PC (including hidden files) should allow you to find which is being used based on Date Modified and File Size.

ok thanks. That is what I did. Based on which database file was updated last, looks like the one in %Appdata% is the latest. This means though I chose portable installation when I upgraded, still the database and ini files are from my Windows folder.

Is there a way to change without uninstalling and reinstalling?

In that case MediaMonkey.ini should have:

Code: Select all

[Portable]
IsPortable=1
You can manually change the database location using DBName in the ini: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... ini-files/

Perfect thanks. I will do the following steps

1. Copy the mm.db from c:%appdata to the portable location
2. Edit the ini file in the portable location with Isportable=1 and also change the path for the db in the ini file.

Hope these steps will move the db to portable.

Is there anything else I need to do?

No,
DBName works in both a regular and portable install to point to a non-standard database location.
