How big is you music collection? (2)

Post by Lowlander »

This topic is continued from the first How big is you music collection? to allow people to update their collection size in the poll and to accommodate those with bigger collections.

So how many songs do you have in your MediaMonkey library?

Please leave comments on what file types you use, how you store your collection and how well MediaMonkey handles your collection size.

Right now I have ~14000 tracks in my library but I have many waiting to be sorted and tagged as well as a number of CDs left to rip so that number will definitely change.

I rip or convert everything to mp3 and play all my CDs directly from the ripped files rather than playing the hard media. This way, I can play whatever I want whenever I want without having to switch discs. Also everything is already prepared for my Zen Stone so I don't have to take any extra time converting on the fly (a process I have never cared for in any environment).

I haven't had any problems with MM natively handling my collection (that is, without scripts) as regards to size vs. performance. I do however feel it is missing a few key essentials for file management and a few optional features for playback. ID3v2.4 support would be ideal.

 A measly 6,000+ :-?
But they are all things that I like and listen to.
Sometimes seems that some people just add stuff so that they have a comprehensive library and most of it just sits there looking pretty.
Not saying in any way that that applies to all or most large library's.

Only 1000+ for me, but I'm proud of the fact that I have every song properly tagged and with synchronized lyrics. All of my tracks are mp3, mainly for compatibility issues, but I'm considering starting a second library on another PC with FLACs for archival purposes.

I have everything tagged properly. Still working on synchronized lyrics and filling the comments tag with album review.

Actually, I take that back... There are about 50 tracks of unknown origin. Whose obscurity has slowed my goal to have everything properly tagged.

21377 tracks and I'm completely amazed by the speed MM can handle this.

There is 12705 that are not rated yet.

3853are rated >or= 3.5 stars so there basicly my favorites.

I will try to keep it in the 20k range for the moment.

I'm not trying to have a comprehensive library. It's just that I don't like to listen ten times to the same song.

Oh I forgot to mention that they are mainly mp3. Since it seems to have an impact on performance.

I have 48,000+ tracks in my Jazz folder. Still tagging them on a regular basis since I fucked up my database like a moron.
I did not really start tagging the other 15,000 tracks I have in other styles.

Before I moved to the US I ripped all my cds and sold them (too many to carry around with me).

I'm dreaming of the day where all my library will be tagged entirely...

I have a reasonably large number of tracks, but try as I might to have the tags completely updated, I have to be realistic and settle only for the most important.

Thus I'm only filling in: Album Artist; Artist; Title; Track#; Year (for album release date); Custom Field 1 (for Track release date); Original Artist/Title/Year (if applicable); Custom Field 2 (for Track source - eg cd etc); Conductor; and Composer. Genre I'm giving a go at, but I'm afraid it's driving me mad... All other fields are blank (ie: no lyrics, publisher etc). Rating is done each time I listen to a new track so it's an on-going system - probably never to be finished...

I'm still currently using MM2.5, but totally happy with the speed (just waiting a bit for MM3 to mature further). If it wasn't for MM and especially scripts like W. Kyle White's Custom Scripts, I'd be totally lost trying to perform batch changes.

The few times I still use iTunes (eg for podcasts ... until I change to MM3), I shake my head in bewilderment at its sluggish response. I have very few items in iTunes, compared to MM, but MM is still faster in most areas. Although, I have noticed that at the 50k mark, MM is decidedly slower (esp in searches) than it used to be. :)

After trying iTunes and WMP, I couldn't imagine using anything other than MM3.

Admittedly, I do mainly use Traktor (and slowly being converted to Live) for most track playback, and would love more compatability between the two - but I think that's more Traktor's fault than MM's.

Most tracks are in V0 MP3 format, with all new media being encoded into FLAC where possible.

A little over 390,000 (1.75 TB) of mp3's @128-320 across 5 drives. You can imagine how long it takes to run the editing functions. It would sure be nice to have a choice to run editing tools such as unsynchronized tags on specific drives or folders. The new version of MM crashes if you interrupt it for any reason, and the right click on the status bar to terminate is non-functional for whatever reason but other players crash at half this much data. Couldn't live without MM.
