Yes it is a computer. It can do everything except what's necessary (running MediaMonkey).
At that price, I think you'd be better with a real laptop.

The iPad can play music. It's basically a huge iPhone without the phone application.

sounds like they need to drop the Istyle of name and use real names like mac pad or apple pad, since it is normal for everything now days to be allowed to connect to the internet.
and just because the " I " style of names is out dated and boring to me i've never liked it and thought it as stupid as some one saying MY BAD when they make a mistake. they made the mistake so whom else's would it be.?
it also shows little in the thought process of naming their new product's or systems. and for a company that is to be one of the top ones in the business, having a name picking person that is stuck on 4 letters well they need to send him back to school so he can learn to spell.
and since you said it can't play music with mediamonkey and it has to be used like the smaller Iphone. then why buy the thing.
i think the company's need to focus on making more robust hardware and parts for the computers now.
instead of making new gagets that don't do as much as a computer tower or laptop system.
the price they charge for these things and they want us to buy new ones every year.??? how about a rebate on the amount of years the unit is to work that we did not get to use it because they stopped supporting them in favor of a lessor gaget, that they make for us to do the same thing with, and stop our old one from working proper so we have to buy the new one.
either that rebate or lower the price to a more fitting price for a gaget that is to last a year. like say 20 us dollars, i think that is fair for a year of use from a gaget.

I would have considered buying one for watching videos and listening to music while in my bedroom to use as sort of a mini stereo/TV and thaught "well, for what it does, £150-£200 would be reasonable then saw the price and thaught "wow, Apple really don't want people to buy this thing"
update: just poked around with the floor model in the iStore and still can't find anything that justifies the completely arbitary pricetag

it's all the apps you add to it afterwards that make them great.likewise the iphone out of the box is pretty boring until you personalise it with apps that you use.
"i played with a PC in the shop - can't work out why they wanted £800 for it - doesn't do much..."

This thread is still up?
About what I said before, I understand floor PCs in shops have very little software on them but they at least have a fancy screensaver or animation thing loaded on it to show what the hardware is capable of and possibly internet access. I also understand that these things live or die on their community.
The floor model iPads I looked at have a few apps on them to them to try out: the ones I tried weren't anything special, resoloution and sound quality is just as good as any old cheap netbook except that screen really doesn't do HD Youtube videos justice. On the plus side, the touch screen is responsive and interperets actions correctly most of the time. I think it's alright but I feel most of what you're paying for is potential, branding and a big touch screen.

if i can't use it on this pc then i don't need it. so the apps on the telephone and on a notepad do me no good.

ipads are ok but restrictive with regards to their apps etc. I don't know why they did just include the phone capability with it.
Whilst many won't look beyond conventional laptops, tablet pc's are leaving laptops behind, sales-wise.
It's probably only a matter of time before any problem with a lack of certain apps (e.g MediaMonkey) on any tablet pc is addressed.

If they would let you put windows 7 on it it would make it so much more worth it. The ipad is like a big iphone. LOL. The OS is way too restrictive. Jailbreaking is the only way to get the most out of it.
I would rather have a full OS on my device I pay 600 some bucks for.
