device incompatibility work-around - virtual device

Post by abrazor »

As I mentioned in another post, I recently bought a Iriver u10 MP3/MP4 player. It is a 2 gig play for sure device but cannot succesful sync with MM. I can send files there but it doesnt adjust the database. According to Jiri it won't be happening any time soon.

so, I have an idea for those people who can't sync.

I would like a script that would sync a folder of my choice in my PC with a playlist that I choose. Why?

You see, at the moment I have an autoplaylist I like for my player and I choose Send/Copy To/(folder I have set up) then I need to open the software for my player and use that software to load the songs. But every time I need to delete the songs in the folder then retransfer. It would be just that little much easier if I could autosync the autoplaylist with the folder.

Is there a way to do this?

What would be really groovy is if there was a virtual folder that loads in the little pulldown menu of plugin devices and could autosync when I start, and I can easily right click and choose send to for it.

Abrazor, have you checked my Virtual CD Plugin (My Fan Page).
It Acts like a Standalone drive and can be used in Synching?

Yes Peke, I tried that. But it is recognised as a CD drive which is a component of the computer so it doesn't come up in the device sync menu. I tried putting the files into it and that was okay but i wasn't able to sync between that and my device.

Have you tried to sync c:\VirtualCD (Default path for plugin and where all files are written)?

Abrazor,
You got it right, Edit "gen_VCDrive.ini" in MM plugins Folder to change Drive and path.
Folder must exist prior to MM start as there will be some problems (possibly it will not work).

I can send files to that place but can't set up an autosync with a playlist.
