What shall I do next?

Post by trixmoto »

I am currently working through my list of issues with existing scripts, some have which have been on there for far too long! At some point next month I hope to start work on a new script though. Over the years I've compiled a rather long list of possible candidates, but I'd like to know which would be the most relevant to people now. The options are...
  • ArtistComments - A new script to populate the artist comment field with information from wikipedia or Last.Fm.
  • ArtistImages - Similar to my BatchArtFinder script, but for artists.
  • AutoScheduleDJ - A new "Auto DJ" script, which schedules from different (auto)playlists at different times of the day/week.
  • DatabaseCreator - A new script to export data into a new database, as discussed here.
  • EchoNestTagger - A new "Tag from web" source, utilising the Echo Nest webservices.
  • FuzzyMatches - A new script which uses fuzzy matching algorithms to find similar artist names and allow you to merge them (eg. "Pink" and "P!nk").
  • JustListSeries - Similar to my JustListAlbums script, but for TV series.
  • Magnatune - A new integration allowing songs to be played from Magnatune.
  • RecreateXSPF - Similar to my RecreateM3U script, but for XSPF playlists.
  • RhapsodyTagger - A new "Tag from web" source, utilising the Rhapsody Direct webservices.
I don't promise to do the one that is ranked highest first, but I'll definitely use it as a guideline :D

I don't want to make this thread sticky, so I'm just going to bump it :) You can use this thread to give me new ideas and/or comment on the existing ideas as well, if you want to.

I love many of the suggestions, but I love DatabaseCreator the most.

+1 for taggerscripts.
Every script and source that helps to identify our tracks and tag them with high quality metadata and cover art is highly appreciated!

someone posted the auto eq preset script we have for mm 3 is not working on their mm 4 so is it possible for you to make a new one for mm 4.?

i don't know why it was not working for them but it seems to be working for me in my mm 4 maybe it is something to do with windows 7 codes.?

how about a script that will find the original ablums by the original artists that did the songs.
so when we search the web for albums to buy we can just type in a song name and find the oldest album listed anyplace on the web for that song.

example : the song Sing, Sing, Sing, is an old song from big band days but the rock group Chicago redid it back in the 70's and its been done 100's of times by different big bands. but who was the first artist to do the song?

this script would help a lot for us that want to know the first artist of a song, and in being able to create and answer triva quiz's, which i know some dj's on the radio like to make and ask.

Do you mean the Auto Set Equalizer to Current Song's Genre script? If you think it's still working then it's most likely just that they haven't configured it yet. The script is still an active member of the forum, so I wouldn't consider taking over the script unless they weren't planning to support it anymore and it definitely wasn't working.

One of the external panel options in Monkey Rok uses Second Hand Songs to determine covers of tracks and the original version.

oh i don't have monkey rok so i didn't know that.

and no i didn't mean to take it over from the other script author. i meant to make a new script doing it with win 7 codes or win 8 codes if the one we have now is not working in those systems.

i've got the one now in my mm 4 version and it works so i'm thinking it has to be the codes or the hardware in the new systems if this one is not working for people with those new systems. my xp it works fine.

just have that issue with the image holder for the mini player being too big and making a white line on the right of the player still in mm 4, maybe that will be fixed soon. ?
have the other issues with mm 4 but thats to be in the other threads i been posting in for ever about them.

Well I'll keep and eye on the thread and see what happens, hopefully the original scripter can resolve any issues there might be.

It has been suggested that maybe some kind of Facebook integration was created, similar to the Last.Fm Scrobbler (although this doesn't seem to be working at the moment) - is this something that people are interested in? If so, what kind of functionality would you want to see included?

Would love to see actual good video "tag from web" capability.

TV Series - http://www.tvrage.com/ or http://thetvdb.com/
Anime Series - http://anidb.net/

Something like this could go a long way in actually using MM4's library management for video.

A renamer tool I use called Filebot uses these for file renaming but it doesn't actually "tag" anything or store it in a DB format like MM.

http://filebot.sourceforge.net/ for reference.

I personally would love to see integration with Social Media. I have my personal collection, but many times I'm sitting at home listening to music, and to share that with the rest of the world I have to go and find the song on youTube to link it to Facebook. In my opinion I use Social Media as a digital timeline of my life that is searchable by anyone. I personally love the idea of sharing my tastes of music with the world with less hoops. :D

You can share with last.fm: http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brows ... scrobbler/ which is good at tracking what you have listened over time. You can share last.fm with Facebook (so no direct MediaMonkey to Facebook, but it is possible via last.fm): http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brows ... scrobbler/

Hi,
I don't see this item on your list.
I use mediamonkey to rip, organize and play my collection. I have another database that stores the artist, album, song, and source information. I have a collection from a wide assortment of sources. CD, DVD, Vinyl, Cassette, Reel To Reel, etc. So it makes it easy to find the original source.

It would be nice if a user could rip a CD or DVD, update the tags in MediaMonkey and then export the information. The user could then import the data into another tool. I'm thinking something like being able to export selected titles or playlists. The user would pre-select which fields they want exported and being able to export into a couple of formats (txt or xls).

Thanks,
Greg
TIA
