MicroSD cards getting corrupted

Post by RzmmDX »

I have a Samsing S8+ with sandisk 128 and 64 micro sd cards.

And it seems that during my wifi syncs, the cards are getting corrupted.

I am not sure if it was due to a MMA update or the new Samsung fw update.

I really don't want to lose a third card.

Hi,
what do you mean corrupted? Do you mean that Android reports them as damaged and needs to be formatted?
Have you tried repair/format them on PC in card reader?

Hi,
I've seen such issues in the past on devices not officially support >32GB cards but it should not be an issue on S8+

I also see that you reached out to Samsung support at https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Gal ... d-p/258243 and similarly issue with https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/for ... 59/page/65 another post there.

More issues found by search https://www.google.com/search?num=100&c ... gb+problem

Personally I find 32GB cards are the most stable. That is the reason why I never use more than 32GB, for additional storage I use external 480GB SSD drive powered from USB HUB (Active one that have own power source) and OTG cable.

As suggested Try not to use MMW for sync. This issue really sounds like SDCard was never unmounted correctly (Deep Sleep) while it was still accessed.

Do charge your phone while sync, does it goes into standby (Lock Mode) or any option that can put phone in power safe mode?

I have also seen fake SD cards. Maybe you could try to copy some files in Windows Explorer (fill the card) and see if it works.

What is MMW? And that was not me on the samsung support.

And it seems that I do usually sync while charging and playing games on my phone.

So how should I sync my library to my phone now?

^This would be my suspicion as well going by the problem described. If you're purchasing Micro SD cards from online retail sources, my experience has been that it's more difficult in purchasing legit micro SD cards than to purchase the fakes.

Every micro SD card I purchase online, now has to go through a suite of visual and s/w tool inspection tests before I use it.

To eliminate the possibility that the MicroSD cards are fake, I would recommend using these PC freeware tools to inspect the card prior to attempting to sync to them using MMW or MMA.

-RMUSBPrep
-Chip Genius
-FakeFlashTest
-h2Testw

Many consider h2Testw to be the standard in confirming if you have a fake or not and also takes the longest to test, but all these tools will wipe out any previous data during the write tests.

Then for Android Apps on your phone, I recommend the following apps.
- SD Insight
- SD Card Test

If you're using Samsung Micro SD cards, I have a review posted on Amazon for one of my recent purchases on how to visually identify the fakes compared the legit cards.
