Artist and album descriptions

More or less, I am looking for in-depth descriptions of albums and artists so that I can use them to tag my database. Allmusic.com is pretty good, but I am curious if there is anything better. My database is 98% classic rock.

In addition, I am curious. Where is the information about the artist and album stored? I am guessing that they are not stored individually on the mp3 file. Also, is there a method of displaying this information when listening to music (not right-clicking and hit properties.)
