mm5 start

Post by teodore »

Bonsoir,

I don't know if you encounter the same situation when starting mm5.
I think Barry already mentioned the slower speed of the scan.
Here at the launch of mm5, I note that it mobilizes a lot of resources (processor and memory). Which inevitably starts the fan, and makes a lot of noise.
For a comparison, I tested foobar2000/MM5:
processor: 1/15 % - Memory: 300/1000 Mo - 0.8/10-20 Mo.s

As for the slowness, I just noticed that it seems to repeat previous operations; in any case for thumbnail, it starts again the creation of the thumbnails of the same mpeg tracks.

Look at the bottom of the window (two different scan : same thumbnails)
1st autoscan on lauch : https://ti1ca.com/x6s8333u-scanrepeat1- ... 1.png.html
2st autoscan : https://ti1ca.com/7adzeuix-scanrepeat2- ... 2.png.html

But we know that the team has still solved many problems and it is now rare that mm5 plants or freezes at launch.
I like to explore my library more and more with mm5.

You cannot compare MM5 with foobar as we're using chromium (Chrome browser core) for UI. Did you compare scan speed with debug version of MM4 ? Based on our tests MM5 scan performance should be similar to MM4 (or better with some extensions as we've improved parsing performance for some of the formats).

The comparison was because of my trouble of the noise during the autoscan with mm5 and the same operations done each time.
mm4 is very quiet (no fane and only 100 Mo memory) and that point is important for me.

It's an indication and not a reproach.

Hi,
I also tested MM4 and MM5 and yes MM5 is using more resources but shows 400% more info than MMW especially for Videos files, also it searches Lyrics Artwork, in background along with Real Time update, ... Number of services that are not available in MMW. Unfortunately at the moment MM5 can't be compared to apps that MMW was compared due the fact that unlike many other apps (including MMW) MM5 Renders Page in realtime.

I tested MM5 and MMW on a AMD ThreadRipper 1950x/64GB of RAM and MM5 outperformed MMW by 30% on 20k+ Music files and 10k+ Video Files while Scan Metadata/Info accuracy was 90% better in favor of MM5 where MMW found 10% of Correct Video Metadata and MM5 found 90% (we are still tweaking it due the known issues and limitations).
