How Do You Acess RegExp in MM5

Post by richiefinger »

Is RegExp working in MM5?
Is it installed as standard or do you have to add it?
Where is it?
How Do I access it?
It's not coming up in the Edit drop down menu

Just had a look at regexp wiki and from that it says MM5 is not supported.

What I would like to do is to copy data from the TBPM field in the Extended tags that shows up in MM5 to the BPM field.

I tried to go back to MM4 and use the regexp but the extended tags don't show up.

Any ideas on how I could this with MM4 or MM5?

RegExp (and MMW4?) makes no mention of TBPM in the documentation. It does mention BPM and has a few presets. BPM is also one of the "fields" you can read and write into e.g. Insert <From Field> to <Into Field>

If your objective is to get the BPM value into the BPM field then the following might help:
  • DownLoad and Run Foobar 2000
    Create a Playlist
Add the Folders containing music files (in batches if a lot)
Select All / Right Click BPM Analyser / Analyse BPMs
    Update Files
    Check MMW4 / 5
This works for both MMW4 and MMW5 for my MP3 files.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion on using an external BPM tagger, Yes that will work for what I want to do re BPM but there is Publisher info in the Extended Tags Fields that I want to copy into the Publisher Field so I should have asked about that instead :)

It did make me go and try Foobar2000 though but can't see the BPM analyzer option? Using v1.6.6

Did as you said, put some tracks in a playlist , selected all, right click.....then what? Tried all the options couldn't find the BPM analyzer???
Can't see a BPM field in Foobar either to know if its been populated
Cheers Anyway

Sorry, my mistake. I had forgotten that the BPM analyser is an add-on component for Foobar.

https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_bpm

I was running v1.5 of FB2000 - thanks for pointing out the latest version is 1.6.

Installed the new version and the BPM analyser seems to work with that also.

HI Ian,
Just a note to you or anyone else who comes across this thread in the future.
I used Foobar2000 on Windows with the BPM analyzer addon and found it the worst for accuracy of all the BPM anaylzers I've used. More than 50% of the tracks were wrong by more than 10 BPM.

I can live with the results being half or double time or of a few BPM each way.
I can accept that any track with a time signature change or very loose drumming patterns can throw the results out.
However I was getting incorrect data of 20 or 30 BPM out on some four to the floor electronic tracks.

Hi RichieFinger, thanks for information.

I looked at a few MP3 BPM analysers about a year ago - and they all had short-comings. Some did not write to the Tags, some were not able to analyse all files.

It would be good if someone can recommend a more reliable / accurate analyser.

I used RekordBox which is Pioneers DJ Software and somewhere along the line its saved into an extended tag as TBPM which shows decimal amounts. That's why I was originally asking about moving my existing info.
None of the BPM anyalyzers are perfect but I found the Foobar one to be particularly bad.
Mixmeister used to be OK. I'm not sure if it's still going.
Most of the DJ software has one built in but in but they all save things in different ways.
I spent 30 years doing it manually with my vinyl so I will cut any program some slack to not have to do it one by one :)

Hi RichieFinger,

MixMeister still downloadable but not seen much development in recent years. I found it would not analyse ALL tracks.

Will take a look at your suggestions. Thanks for these.

Just as a comparison with Foobar, I had a few with Foobar that wouldn't analyze too. I just marked them 9999 and did them manually later. I've had the same with key analyser software too, with certain tracks that just crashed the software.
They were not the same tracks at fault though.
