Is there any way to maintain the Artist Images in Playing? [#18593]

Post by Leonos »

Maybe this has been asked before but I was not able to find a solution yet. When playing a playlist with Artist Bio in the Playing view in the main window, MM finds images related to the artist(s). But sometimes this goes wrong. E.g. "Whishing on a Star" from Rose Royce gives me pictures of Rolls Royces (really!). "Tell me your Plans" from The Shirts gives images of male models wearing shirts. Bill Stewart shows pictures of Rod Stewart, who isn't even his brother.

I noticed images being saved in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\MediaMonkey5 as the playlist plays along but replacing those does not work. It's also not apparent how these files are connected to individual artists. Somewhere this must be saved, but where? And more importantly - can this be edited?

TIA for your suggestions

If you go the Artist page (Find more from same > Artist and have the Info Panel enabled) you can right click on the Artist image and use Lookup image. This allows you to change which image is used for the Artist.

Thanks for answering but it is not Album Art and Artist View related.

While I cannot find "Find more from same > Artist" (where can I find that?), I did see the 'Lookup image' option in several places. But that replaces the Album art. What I am looking for is replacing the images displayed dynamically in Artist Bio in Playing in the main window, where also Wikipedia info of the artist is displayed, not the one on the right.

It's a bit difficult that they are both called Playing but I mean the one (Home | Playing) where you can right-click so you get a pop-up where you can select Show full window, Show full screen, Choose layout (Views: Album Art, Artist Bio, Lyrics and List) and Background image (Cycle artist images, Artwork (blurred), Artwork (darken), Artwork (original), [x] Animate background on playback)
(in bold the options that I have selected). Depending on the artist, you then get 1 to about 6 images displayed repeatedly while the particular song is playing. Those images are not always correct and I would like to overrule them.

I only recently installed MM and I have maybe difficulty explaining everything in the correct terms.

Find more from same is in the Context Menu of files. On the Artist Bio View you can click the Artist name to be taken to the Artist page.

As said on the Artist page with the Info panel enabled you can right click on the Artist image and use Lookup image from the Context Menu.

Got it, thanks! But when I select another image there, the one, fixed image of the artist is replaced. That's not what I am looking for.

I wonder if we misunderstand each other. I am NOT talking about Artist or Album art but the dynamic photos in the Artist Bio window. Did you select the options in bold like I did?

If you choose Cycle you can't choose what's displayed.

Well, that's a bummer. But do you know where those pictures are saved? I did notice e.g. that where you explained to find the addition artist art, the pictures used in Bio cycle are included there too. If I could just delete those irrelevant ones it would help a lot...

It seems to be stored in Temp/MediaMonkey5.

True, but how is the connection to a particular artist maintained? Not all files contain the artist name. And I tried to replace one file with another picture with the same name but that is just ignored. It seems the files in that folder are only there because they are downloaded but I suspect a copy is saved elsewhere, resized and connected to the artist. In the *.DB maybe?

Also, it seems new pictures are added constantly. I have a playlist of 432 songs running for more than 48 hours now but new pictures are added to C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\MediaMonkey5 the whole time. No way I can constantly delete unwanted ones to prevent them showing up. Is there any documentation, that you know of, which explains how this storing works behind the scenes?

No, it's done automatic behind the scenes. If you don't want the random images, you can't use that option.

But surely it can't be impossible for users to replace, or remove, some of the images that cycle while Playing is selected on screen? In the image link below is a screen capture of the song Yellow River, the artist is Christie, the Album Art is correct but the image is a certain politician of the same name that MM5 has auto-loaded from somewhere. You're telling us that there is currently no easy way for users to delete, modify, or add, images to the ones that animate while playing? And there are no immediate plans to add this ability??

JPG on Google drive. Change the "dot" to a period:
https//drive.googledotcom/file/d/1SMZEENQ-PjLKLHoRBwI3lfVU1hpEfQe4/view?usp=sharing

Couldn't this be some kind of priority for at least a plugin by someone?

Also it would be a lot easier to show bugs if we were allowed to post links or images.

Thanks for your attention.

No, not when you set it to Cycle Artist Images. If you want to control the image that is shown, you need to not use that option. Cycle Artist Images is designed to auto-lookup online any additional Artist images, and this is not user controllable as to which images are used.

But it's showing images that are NOT correct which is obvious if you look at the screen capture. Regardless of whether this is normal behaviour or not, it is not the way a program of this level should behave.

I want to cycle images so that a song can have 5 or 10 different artist or song images cycle while it's playing. But having it show incorrect, or unsized images, during performances is making me look stupid. Can it be added to the feature request list at least? I own both MM5 lifetime and MMA and this is driving me crazy.

Thank you

Is there any method for keeping up with the Artist Images in Playing?

Post by Leo5258 »

Perhaps this has been asked previously however I couldn't track down an answer yet. When playing a playlist with Artist Bio in the Playing view in the fundamental window, MM observes pictures identified with the artist(s). Be that as it may, some of the time this turns out badly. For example "Whishing on a Star" from Rose Royce gives me pictures of Rolls Royces (truly!). "Let me know your Plans" from The Shirts gives pictures of male models wearing shirts. Charge Stewart shows pictures of Rod Stewart, who isn't even his sibling.

I saw pictures being saved in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\MediaMonkey5 as the playlist cooperates however supplanting those doesn't work. It's likewise not obvious how these documents are associated with individual specialists. Some place this should be saved, however where? Also more critically - would this be able to be altered?

Just right-click the artist in a grid and select "Lookup image..."
it will then give you choice like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ehjo162mdhuq ... 8.png?dl=0
where you can choose image as you like.

EDIT: Ahh, just reading it again that you are takling about "Artist Bio" background image in the Playing node.
So nope, it can't be chosen there, but seeing it tracked as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18593 with 5.1 target
