MM5 is very difficult to make sense of

Post by astro46 »

Hard to say if this is a request for help, or simply feedback. I am a fairly new user to MM 4 and have found navigating it to be less than intuitive.

However, I have tried MM5 and find it baffling. as a few examples:
- if I click on the left window Music>"composers" , it returns a list of seemingly every track. Many of which have an empty "composer" field.
- left window: Music>Albums: shows list of tracks, most of which are not albums
- left window: why Music, as opposed to Classical? (similar to MM4)
- left window: Folders> eg Classical folder> I see a screen of very large folder icons with composer name below each. What is the point of taking up all the screen space with large pictures of folders? If I click on a folder or name (if changed to list view), eg: Bach: middle screen fills with tracks from the Bach folder. bottom window of screen continues with a seemingly random list of tracks. What is this random list from?
- MM5 is continually trying to access internet. I am not doing anything that would be asking it to go online.

I could go on. I wind up closing MM5 and go back to MM4.
I have trouble with design concept in MM4, but MM5 is even more baffling.

Music > Composers and Music > Albums will show all files in the Music Collection. You can use the individual Composers or Albums in the Media Tree if you want to select specific Composers or Albums. You'll need to enable show all subnodes to see these sub-nodes in the Media Tree: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... 0#Settings

Classical Music can still be used, MMW4 also put Music and Classical Music in the same Music Collection. You can edit Collections to change what is shown in them: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... ollections

Folders, you can change which Elements are shown in the Filelisting: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... _Displayed
Folders shows all Media Files in that folder, even if they are not in the MediaMonkey Library: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... .0#Folders

Check settings under Tools > Options > Metadata Lookup for things like Artworks and Lyrics: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... ata_Lookup and also the Info Panel element looks up online.

Re: Music > Albums
For me it shows Grid (by Album) as the default view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a6pw26tl09byq ... 7.png?dl=0
So you must have switched to 'List' ? The same applies for Composers (alse a grid as default)

Re the large folder icons, it is 'Grid (folders)' view element, so just switch to 'List (folders)' like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dyo29fv55qmrd ... 5.png?dl=0
or disable both 'folders' elements to see only files (like in MM4)
