How do I get these filter boxes from MM4 in MM5? Do they exist?

Found it! Did maybe that setting not get transferred when I did the transfer of settings from MM4?

Since MediaMonkey 5 handles views/panels differently than in version 4, such as introducing the album grid views and browser views, I don't believe any of the view settings are copied from 4 to 5.

FYI, there's a handy dropdown on the top-right corner of the main view, which lets you change the current view much more quickly.
