In the device profiles, I would like to define different quality settings depending
on the type of audio. That is: music, classical, audio-books, podcasts.
Each type needs a different quality setting (e.g. bitrate).

I don't understand. There already is a quality field.

Re: quality setting according to type of audio
The point is that you can set per Type the conversion rules (like bitrate) for portable device sync.

Re: quality setting according to type of audio
I think the original poster means the ability to set a specific quality level for different types of audio files. I rip my audio files to FLAC and use MediaMonkey's auto conversion function to convert the files to MP3 when it loads them on my player. But I'm limited to having them all converted to the same quality (V0, my preferred quality level for music) regardless of content. With some types of files such as audiobooks, a lower quality level might be acceptable.
A useful change would be to allow the following when loading the files on a player (as an example):
Music: MP3 at Quality Level V1
Classical: MP3 at Quality Level V0
Audiobooks: MP3 at Quality Level V4
Podcasts: MP3 at Quality Level V3
This would allow user to load more files on their player by reducing the size of some files.
