Keep computer awake while playing

Post by rivorson »

I'm having a problem with my computer hibernating while I'm watching movies and playing music because MM does not make a request to keep the computer awake. It seems to rely on the computer being kept awake by an audio stream which might work in many cases but I had to disable that in powercfg because my soundcard permanently maintains an audio stream and would therefore permanently prevent the computer from hibernating.

I've done a bit of searching and I think that PowerSetRequest function with parameter PowerRequestSystemRequired within Kernel32.dll is required to request that the computer stay awake.

But I want the computer to hibernate when I'm not using it. It would be less hassle to use MPC to play videos since that sends the power request.

Old school in windows the hibernate feature has been buggy so I shut it off. My system runs 24 / 7 / 364 the monitor is always on it takes 3 minutes in the day to do restart, one system is my jukebox the other is the main system. No trouble with not using the hibernate feature. Jukebox has been running since 1999 or 2000 except about a week when motherboards and power supplies burned up. I use to use screen savers but not anymore I like to see what mm is showing.
The main one has screen saver working no trouble at all with either running like that without hibernation feature. 8)
