File Properties Layout

Post by CarlitoGil »

In the 'Details' tab of Properties

Instead of this layout

Code: Select all

Start Time: [0:00 ] Stop Time: [3:50,123 ]
Play counter: [0 ] Skip counter: [0 ]

start time >--- GLANCE ---> stop time
<--- GLANCE ---<
play counter >--- GLANCE ---> skip counter
Use this
Reading each category can be done in a single glance.

Code: Select all

Start Time: [0:00 ] Play counter: [0 ]
Stop Time: [3:50,123 ] Skip counter: [0 ]

start time --> stop time >--- GLANCE ---> play counter --> skip counter
The vertical space in the middle separates the four fields, grouping then visually into the left ones and the right ones.
This vertical separation is much more prominent than the horizontal separation.
Since the four fields clearly have two logical categories, makes sense that the visual division corresponds to the logical division.
Thus, improving the reading of fields by category.
This way related fields (their labels and content) are closer and related boxes should have the same width.

Also, English is not my first language, but I think "Play count" instead of "Play counter" is more appropriate.

Hmm, I guess I'm more of a horizontal person.

I'm Ok with either way, if Ui change do not interfere with Keyboard TAB Navigation (Start -> Stop -> Played -> Skipped) I'm OK with it.

I think I like the vertical newspaper style than the horizontal book style.

Never really gave it much thought, but now that it's been brought up... I think the suggested grouping actually does make things better. I agree with Peke though, moving them shouldn't change the tab order.

I know this has been discussed before but... The basic tab looks busy and unappealing compared to MM3. Also, it is not consistent with the other tabs (details, classification). The field names 'Title', 'Artist(s)', etc. appear on top of the boxes and the inadequate vertical spacing between the boxes makes them appear crowded and difficult to read. The other tabs have the field headers to the left.

If you go by the 'glance' theory, this one is worse: it is glance -> read, absorb -> glance -> read, absorb... if I just go vertically down it forces me to read the field names and details alternatively. In the default vitreous skin, there is no difference between background color and field box to separate them well visually.

It is the most used dialog box. Admit you messed it up.

Can't live without monkey.

'Start Time', 'Stop Time', 'Original Title'
Have capitals in the second word which is inconsistent with other two words labels.

+1 for the re-order of the 4 fields and +1 for the above inconsistencies.

Nice spot GIL!

Well, thank you, sir.

Also, don't forget from the original post that "Play counter" should be in english "Play count"
