New MediaMonkey Version

Post by dypsis »

Is there any news on the status of MediaMonkey 4?

Is there any likelihood of a working beta version any time soon?
What new features or improvements are we likely to see?

For improvements, I would like to see faster startup and a slicker File Monitor.

What do you think? 8)

Version 4? I doubt it. I think we've seen the last of Media Monkey...the developers have lost interest.

MediaMonkey 4 is still in development and no dates have been and probably will be released as they only serve to be passed without anything ready yet. A couple weeks had been promised for an alpha, but that has passed to probably due to work on versions 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. Now with iOS 4.2 and iTunes 10 announced it's only time before we come to the conclusion that Apple changed everything again and thus the developers need to release 3.2.3 to fix anything that Apple broke with their updates.

There is plenty of work done on version 4 as is obvious from the bug tracker: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view_all_bug_page.php

I guess this is some kind of joke...?

The devs have mentioned version 4 numerous times in the past and viewable progress is evident in the tracker.

Not to mention I've uploaded a screen shot on the forum with a sneak peek of what the new skinning potential there is with v4 (with an early pre-alpha).

There's a few of these anonymous users posting MediaMonkey is dead when threads are discussing a new version, just ignore it.

I've not been lucky enough to get my hands on pre-alpha build, but I've heard good things from those who have! :)

The MM developers could be better at communication regarding development.

So at what stage of the build do mere mortals get to try the new version? alpha? beta?

Depends, I think major versions will often have a public alpha whereas small incremental updates will have beta's.

All this talk of alphas and screenshots...but still no version 4.

And what does any of this have to do with Apple? Changing the subject won't produce version 4 either.

Face it: MediaMonkey had its day in the sun, and now it's over.

They could spend lots of time telling us all about version 4, or they could spend their time creating version 4 and let us see for ourselves. I know which I'd rather! :)
